any of the proposed changes revert the su85 closer to that state. i don't think anyone wants that.

Didn't SU-85s also have really good frontal armour at that point?

I don't really think the SU-85 needs a buff, just, talking.

Its frontal armor was 180, very good reverse and rotation speed basically took away the drawbacks of a turretless TD. Only counter was flanking panthers.

yeah, and it's spotting ability gave it tremendous LOS making flanks neigh on impossible. it could pen anything, but it was also a function of being one of the only forms of reliable AT.

i seem to remember ridiculous pendulum swings back and forth, one patch german armour roamed rampant, then the su85 locked everything down, etc.

su85 Hhas no turret.

If you increase its rotation too much you might as well just give it a turret kappa

But the commander tells me it would be easier with a turret. They wouldn't lie to me like that!

I'd prefer a SU-100, SU-85 is uber outdated in COH2's time frame

You guys think the su100 was some sort of god. Yes the su85 is pretty outdated, and it actually overperforms pretty hard if you are looking at realsim point of view. But we're not, its mostly balanced.Su100 is comparable to the jagdpanther but with a bit worse gun, roughly same armor.wehrwehr

i think the su-85 is fine as is. soviets suffer a bit from not having anything to back it up with other than zis and possibly call in tanks but that's a faction design issue, not a problem with the unit.

Pathing on Su-85 and Jackson REALLY needs an update!

It just needs a change to the the way it drives, also the path finding is pretty crummy lol

Su85 is literally the worst tank in the game. Unless the Stuart counts as a tank... maybe that's the worst.

Actually, the the Su76 is the worst with the Su85 being a close second. It struggles to ever kill anything heavier than a light vehicle, will never kill a heavy, is less than useless against infantry, has no great utility... like... it's just super bad.

Really needs focus sight removed in exchange for an accuracy increasing ability at Vet 1 and a slight mobility increase. The DPS is fine, I guess. But everything else about it kinda sucks.

Or maybe leave it as is with a slight cost decrease and decrease the amount of pop-cap it takes up slightly, to make fielding 2 more feasible.

I dunno if it's a placebo effect, but I feel like I tend to do really well with Su-85s and I certainly prefer them over T-34s. That being said, God help them if they ever get rushed by enemy armour - their mobility is atrocious.

You know CoH2 takes place in late 1944 to early 1945, and the SU-85 was still the mainstay of Soviet Tank Destroyers. The SU-100 on the other hand was only first introduced in October 1944, so it'd best be portrayed as a sort of Elefant-lite, good gun, but also mobile.

SU-85 is meant to be an AT gun on tracks inside an armoured box, little more. In that case it's role in the game is fine to me. It even has the increased sight range to negate the need for scouts (Jacksons have this problem, good range and firepower but poor sight). It's certainly the gun you sit at the back to fire on the enemy, and as a result very vulnerable to flanking.

Maybe it's not suit your style. As Soviet I wouldn't want to rely on Su-85 alone to defeat enemy armors, you need to have at least Zis and AT nade Cons for support. It's only good at keeping tanks at bay or making them come to you, not actually destroying them.

su85 is just a pain, 90% of times it gets fausted/shrecked to death or to being completely useless, it can't finish tanks, pair that with the great axis repair speed and you'll get the picture. Literally nobody uses them in 1v1. With sane teching it could be a decent situational tank but as of now it just sucks

Like I said, fix its pathfinding, adjust its rotation and speed. I wouldn't adjust its armor just yet until you see if that helps with tank survive ability

I wouldn't mind it seeing it get the Jackson treatment.

Increase pen, lower damage. Gives it more of a chance vs end-game heavies (tiger, king tiger, panther, jagdpanzer) while preventing it from completely dominating t3 play (p4, ostwind, luchs get a bit more time on the field)

Increasing mobility or front armour on a unit that has very high sight range is going to lead to trouble. It's a TD that doesn't need spotting, hence it must remain fragile.

If anything, SU85 could get some pathfinding improvements.

i think the su85 is quite balanced versus ostheer t3. It takes like three or four shots to kill the luchs even.
