The problem with the vcoh comparison is that it really does not work here. This is an entirely different game. Plus, the sniper meta came only after 5-6 years of competitive play. The argument could be made that player micro "evolved" to the level where snipers could be that effective.
This is still a game about maintaining manpower superiority over your opponent and that's what the sniper provides, a high cost/risk and high potential reward. The German sniper currently provides the front end of that statement...
But don't take my word for it. The proof is in the pudding or in this case the replay section. Besides Barton or someone trolling some poor lower level player with 5 of them, a strat that doesn't work nearly as much as he'd like you to think, German snipers are never used. That's because they were neutered to death when the free range cloak ability was taken away, the soviet meta began to strongly rely on scout cars with units in them, their health was lowered to the point where they die in 1-2 hits, and soviet crews, for whatever reason, were given 6 crew members. |
The sniper is still useful, especially in team games and especially with the vet 1 ability.
I'm worried any buff to him will result in the sniper heavy games we saw at the end of the CoH meta.
wtf? Show me a team game where the sniper was "useful"

The only 'good' thing about basically the entire cold system is the ice, which is admittedly a lot of fun and actually ADDS to the game.
To be clear. I like the ice addition. It changes the dynamic of the maps quite nicely. |
If an Engi squad is getting that close, it deserves to be punished.
Don't decrease price, it would encourage spamming. I would be open to the idea of higher armour however to increase survivability.
What situation right now would you even envision using a German sniper in? PS I need to see high level replay proof that they are viable. They just aren't good for anything at that price (almost like the panther or tiger). |
If the soviet sniper gets countersniped first, if the Soviet doesn't react, then the German will kill both men in the squad.
You do realize the flaw in that statement I hope? |
I don't think the blizzards are a priority.
The game can be still very active I find if you get a half track and they are useful not only during blizzards (to transport your squads) but to reinforce your squads.
What I miss from vCOH is Forward HQ and real bunkers, especially that we do have some big maps for 1v1 games, it would be nice to setup another "base" imo
My argument isn't about what to do in a blizzard. I know how to reinforce from a halftrack, thx. My argument is that the blizzard just makes the match insufferably boring and frustrating to play through. It's actually worse in team games especially playing against Soviets who camp with longer range heavy armor and mgs/120 mm mortar. Perhaps this could be alleviated if maps like Rhzev weren't just poorly designed layout wise in general. I just think the gameplay would be more fluid without 10 blizzards that stall for various lengths of time over a 35 minute time period. |
The German sniper in general is way too inferior to its counter-part. The worst part is that for some reason, it takes a TON of damage from a volley by infantry. One full volley from even a engi squad can kill it before you can even react. |
mumble key is caps lock. my bad. |
If we are forced to have this horribly implemented design in the game can it PLEASE be limited. I just spent an hour of my life sitting through at least 10 blizzards on Rhzev the abomination of a map. If I can't chat in a chatroom, deselect maps, or do anything I could in 2006 can you AT LEAST, AT LEAST limit the duration or the quantity of this awful mechanic? I don't care if it's an extended one time thing or maybe max of 3-4 but 10 in a game is fucking ludicrous. |
I'm curious as to why the game ended? Lag? He still had many units and a chance to win. |
