Really great change! Was waiting for this to hit the main client, as I'd heard rumors about it before. It should open up more room for combined arms starts.
I played against a player that was doing well against me and then started lagging the game. The message came up to drop him, and I waited for the prompt to come up three times before doing so.
He then proceeds to friend me on steam and harass me - calling me a drophacker among other things. I had to block him and unfriend him because he wouldn't accept that it was a connection problem. He was from China, so his connection possibly was not very good.
I just wanted to add my experience because it was so ridiculous.
For the soviet bulletin "Stealing the Spotlight", the description misspells "accurate". I just thought I'd point it out because it has been bothering me.

Some have guessed correct, we're currently testing a new veterancy system. We're looking to better maintain unit roles through vet and avoid scenarios where units now take twice as many shots to die.
You might also notice some differences with the AT guns on both sides.

One aspect that looks like it may have changed as well is unit responsiveness and response time. I notice much less delay. Has this been modified as well, or is it my imagination?
Awesome idea, I'm down for testing out different strategies. In that same line of thought, ImperialDane has posted several casts on his youtube channel featuring games from players that have utilized smoke screens effectively.
