Personally I've had no problem not using ram.
but IMO its a lame mechanic and isn't used in the way it should be.
I've played both factions and won all but 3 of around 40-50 games since closed beta. Only used ram once... right at the start of the game.
It's not the only way to deal with armor like some people seem to think.
By the way I'm talking 1v1's strictly here, ram balance in 2v2's is a whole different issue because axis T4 is very common there with 2-3 heavy tanks being produced they can pretty much run over any AT line so ram becomes more essential then. |
Is this a troll?
The stats in COH1 that were shown were very dumbed down and were often very misleading to the point that they were really quite useless other than seeing if they were holding a weapon. The description will give you an idea of the unit's capabilities but you will pick it up pretty quick by just playing... |
How do you kill them? I set up at guns and panther ,but they always call in a firestorm and or infantry and then its just 1vs1 with my panther which gets mudereed and dies. How do I counter these things?
Stugs do a decent job in numbers. Shrecks are also really good for supporting, as the IS-2 can't really afford to target them if you have armour nearby. Remember it's one tank, and it can only target one of your units so having numerous AT options is the key.
End of the day it's a super-tank so it's not going to be easy and there isn't a simple hard counter, you just need to be smart with your troop placement mainly rather than relying on one hard counter.

Soviet T1 hard counters the axis sniper (clown car and the sniper) which means it's too risky to get it early game. So only get it in the mid game.
The most effective time to get it in 1v1's is if your opponent has gone T2, and has 1 or 2 elite infantry squads out as then you can target higher cost units.
I prefer a one pio start with 4 grens and an mg. This gives you plenty of capping power (remember that mg's are decent capping units now). The pio will be busy enough repairing, constructing buildings and placing down mines so that it's inferior firepower doesn't get shown up.

so a free ability which YOU choose when to activate should give you an edge in almost any situation?!
Personally I have never used ram, i don't think its crazy OP but it's just cheap, it's not fun to play against, that's my main issue with it. |
Should a suicide ability be a fair trade??! That takes away from the unit preservation side of things which COH strives for.
But in some situations it will be beneficial, e.g. your tank is one shot away from dying, ramming at that time will give you alot more than just taking that one extra shot.
Ramming with a full health T-34 should NOT be in any good players thought process!! |
i think that is too far Talarfon, essentially wrecking your own tank for just engine damage and temp damage. seems like a bad trade and active abilities shouldnt hurt you, maybe just immobalise on the t34
The reason to make the ability worse, is so it's not a "go-to" ability. Instead situational, using it when your probably going to lose the tank anyway, or if you desperately need to stop the tank.
IMO it should be a LAST RESORT sort of tactic, not one that gives you a fair trade. |
I would like the following changes to be made.
- Heavy engine damage if it's a medium tank (p4, stug, all light veichles),
- Normal damaged engine if it's a heavy tank (Panther, Tiger)
- Heavy engine damage to a heavy tank if below x% health (say 50%)
- All tank types suffer a temporary critical on both driver and gunner
T-34 suffers immobilization + main gun destroyed |
I don't understand why people have problems with the capping system, one of the best changes IMO to the game, gives interesting and dynamic fighting compared to the old system. |
Ram just needs to be doctrinal and not damage the main gun of the tank it rams.
I think if they made it doctrinal it would be a strange dynamic as the German player wouldn't know if it could pull of this "special move". There would be no way of telling which isn't good, especially in 2 v 2's it would be a nightmare!
IMO Ram should just completely take out the engine, maybe give a gunner shocked critical (if temporary criticals exist). Really should only come to a players mind if they are pretty sure they are going to lost the tank anyway rather than a "oh crap he has a better tank" ram and I'm safe |
