Can't we all just get along?
Anyway...
I am still really new to ranked games (like 3 games under my belt). Played the game a bunch when it first came out against AI, and then put it down for sometime until WFA.
I think the long and the short of it is this:
-Any good player will use a good strategy to win the match (cheese or not- because after all, "You play to win the game"- and also have fun. If cheese strategies are fun, then do it, and complain to Relic about the cheese)
-You have to actually be a good player to even make a cheese strategy work.
Case in point, I have all of 3 ranked games under my belt (the epitomy of noob). I played a random 2v2 last night (2 OKW vs 2 Soviet). I was on OKW team. My teammate dropped once he saw two ISU's. I somehow won the match with a panther, King Tiger, and an AI Pak 43.
As soon as I got a chance, I was going to post the replay for comic relief and for feedback on my own play, so I can at least rise above "noob" status. |
They have a guide on this now- which you have probably seen.

Its a 2 v 2 guide, but, its nice. |
Does anyone remember in COH 1, the single tank mode for multiplayer?
I remember it being that you would choose your tank, and go battle it out with other players in their tank. If I recall you actually might have taken more than one tank into a battle, and once you died, you re-spawned in the other. At the end of the match, scores were tallied, etc.
I had a lot of fun with that game mode. Do you think they will ever implement it in COH 2?
Forgive me if I'm getting the details of the game mode wrong... |
I've never tried this against actual players, but, it can be quite fun against the AI.
Make sure you protect your werfer trench/bunker with a flak track, otherwise flame throwers can chew it up quite easily. |
I'm coming back to COH2 and I'm finding strats like these refreshing. I tried it in a couple of team games last night vs. hard AI. (Basically, I don't feel I'm good enough yet to do pvp)
Thanks very much for the guide.
It can be quite effective if you are controlling enough of the fuel on the map. I'm almost finding that learning to use the Puma is a necessity. U.S. gets the flak track really early, and, the Soviets always have some sort of infantry flame thrower spam happening with the AI.
Also if the enemy is largely going with a lot of mobile firepower (i.e. light vehicles, and blobs of infantry that never sit still) on a larger map, that walking stuka can be very difficult to use.
Its almost worth it to just wait it out for Jagdpanzer or the Command Panther on larger maps with a mobile enemy.
On larger maps with less buildings that this strat seems more difficult to use. Unless of course you are "balsy" enough to setup your retreat point closer to fuel points and pray you can protect it.
Plus having a Ostheer teammate helps- MG's, P IV's, etc.
Great guide though. Gets me to thinking, What else can I do with OKW? |
Coming a little late to the party.
I've been playing mainly vs. the AI, and in team games (thinking that I would probably get crushed in 1v1). I'm finding that with this build I have trouble countering the quick T-34's of the Soviet AI.
I know the guide says 1v1, so clearly I'm guessing there are differences.
I've been watching replays of others that seem to do well against the AI.
Any thoughts on team games vs the AI?
Does 1v1 net more experience and that's why those guides seem to be more popular? |
