However from all my experiences, when a P4 comes head to head with a T34, the deciding factor of the battle really comes down to one factor; which tank gets in the first penetrating shot. This tell me one thing, these tanks are basically even when versing each other.
Although the P4 gets mgs (50muni), the t34's gun is much better verse infantry - I don't know which is better in this case.
The P4 acquires blitz (30muni) at vet one in comparison to the t34's ram - I feel the p4's ability is much better in this scenario.
Finally the p4 can get doctrinal smoke (30muni)
So the question is - Is the P4 higher cost of 25 fuel and 40 man-power justified in comparison to the price and performance of the t-34?
Edit: One thing I left out is that the T-34 has a lot more mobility and is really good at running over units if handled right.

PIV has insanely good veterancy bonuses. T-34 might as well not have veterancy at all.

Not saying you are wrong as I don't personally know the stats, but whenever a t-34 lands a 'good shot' it tends to kill 3 men in a squad (on rare occasions 4 kills leading to a potential squad wipe). In comparison a 'good shot' with the p4 will kill 2/3 guys (never once have I squad wiped with one shot from a p4). Also keeping in mind - German infantry are worth more than allied (most of the time)

People overestimates PIV AI. Thing is, they remember those "lucky" shots from the main cannon rather the constant bleed of the combination of all the weapons.

i think t34 reloads faster and tracks target faster with its main gun at vet2 and faster speed + even faster reload at vet3.

I think the P4s problem is more to do with the meta than with being underpowered. The unit itself is pretty strong, especially once it gains Vet 2, but its cost (including tech cost) makes it a little unattractive in a meta where people prefer to save for expensive call-ins that can outperform and counter the P4 (E8s, T34-85s, ISU, IS2 e.t.c.). I predict that once Relic changes the call-in system, the P4 will become a better option since it will have a larger timing window to exploit before those call-ins hit the field.

OP: As has been stated, the PIV has better veterancy than the T34...but then again, all things being equal, you might just as well invest in a Tiger. In the current meta, I think the strongest role for the PIV is as the goal of a techrush to punish US LT/AAA or Soviet Sniper/Guard play.
