@Cyridius.

Right now, I feel exactly the same as you and I've left.

COH1 was a really awesome game. I joined the party late (been around for only a year) but still had some really awesome fun. It has been one of the best games I've played.

But now, I'm feeling meh, not only about COH1/COH2 but also about gaming in general. I guess this has taught me not to put too much faith in anything in general.

It's not relevant when trying to determine the value of the product. A core component in a product can be relatively cheap to replace, whereas another component can be quite expensive but it's valued by consumers.
Think about fluro lights on a desktop computer. They're not necessary to run the computer, but they can be quite expensive considering the only value they add is aesthetics.
You have a lot to learn...

If your reading comprehension level was up to par you would have noticed the part where I said materials used is a factor. If I need to start bolding words for you just let me know.

Not true with all games. In fact many titles have used small, cheaper expansions rather than packaged DLC (which often contain many features people do not even want). The beauty of the model Relic are doing right now is individuals can pick and choose exactly what they want. I don't like that commander, but I do like this other one. Great, you don't have to spent $12 for them all, I can buy each one I like individually. Never before has the gaming community had so much control over their purchases. In the past it has been bulk DLC and expansions full of shit people do not even want (I don't care about campaign or ToW) but their new model allows me to not only pick the area of the game I want improve, but the exact commanders and units I want right now. This model is actually a good thing for the community, but you people are too stupid and blind to see it.

This is probably the closest you've come to a coherent argument, but no matter what you buy individually it is still 400-500% overpriced. The ToW pricetag is the only one that comes close to its actual worth, or what the vast majority people are willing to pay for it.

Pretty childish post and your comments show a severe ignorance of economics and how the world works. So I'm just going to say - keep trying, kid.

Yet you're the one falling flat on your face every time you try to make your point. But if stealing my punchline helps you sleep better at night, more power to you.

I loved CoH1 and was really looking forward to CoH2 as my next competitive game. I did not buy CoH2 at release due to it not being worth the asking price at the time, but was hopeful it would improve in the coming months (I've been checking periodically to see what's been going on) so I could buy it for less at some Steam sale.

I can tell you now that with DLC working in this manner I will not even give this game a second thought. Even if the DLC doctrines are overall 'weaker' (hint: they won't be) than the given ones, simply having more options available already skews the balance. It's the DEFINITION of pay-to-win.

It both boggles my mind and saddens me that something so easy to do right was done wrong.

i dont really care anymore about it being p2w. they are outrageously priced but i have bought all the German dlc commanders. it makes me sad that they added 50 muni for the price of the assgrens. i dont even use the doc anymore. used it 2 times. now im back to spearhead/lightning(both dlc). im definately waiting for a week or two to see how the soviet whinegirls make relic nerf anything that challenges them before spending any more money on dlc. in fact its gonna have to be a kingtiger commander or jagdpanther before i buy more. the opstruppen commander is not my style. im very sad about the assgrens. that commander turned out to be pay 2 be nerfed next day to uselessness.

There was some talk earlier about "it's not p2w, it's pay for options"

To which I rebut: A wider array of options equate a distinct strategic advantage.

It's a game, and I don't think our real-life social class should be a factor in our ability to compete, on a level playing field. IMHO.

I agree with those that have decried the unknown financial cost of keeping up with game meta (ie. buying new commanders, testing strategies) - and rather expected my pre-purchase to stretch a bit further. If I bought the game x months in advance... I should be able to compete for x months in any case. But no, no, no, we all know what we purchased, it was laid out for us, and whoever it is that makes these decisions isn't budging on it.

All that said, I am quite satisfied with the game balance. Including the added muni cost to AG. It was 'quite' a shock playing my first game against the new commanders (didn't even know they were released), to face up against endless waves of AG spam. Botched that release. Now, instead, I often see them paired up with a PG rush. Which is a challenge, yes, but manageable. It gives the Soviet team enough time to react, and build a counter-strategy, in any case.

I might even buy one or two... but I certainly hope that further releases mesh more gracefully with gameplay at large.

Since people are talking about it ...

In CoH you only have a maximum of 3 commanders you can take into battle to choose from. So the "pay for more variety = pay to win" argument isn't really as straight forward as that, both players take in 3 different commanders for different factions. If you're talking about mirror matches then it makes more sense but who plays those?

Also, do the people who are saying "pay for more variety = pay to win" think that that is the case for LoL and Dota 2, because those games have a massive competitive scene and are based on the foundation of "pay for more variety"

That was true for the original DLC commanders (the ones included with CE) since they had all the same stuff just shuffled around differently. But the new ones have entirely different content. Even though you can only choose 3 per game you will still have access to tactics that don't even exist without the new DLC. IMO its advantageous to have a larger pool of strategies even if its perfectly balanced against the core commanders.

Oh my god. In order for relic to keep the game going they need to keep bringing in cash from it.. 2-3 euros for a commander is a joke.. it's like 2 cheeseburgers that you get to keep forever.

Can't afford 2 cheeseburgers? How the f-k did you afford your computer?

No one has said they cant afford them.
No one. Anywhere. L2Read.

And you don't know that DLC money gets funnelled into development.
You don't know anymore than I do where or how they are budgeted.

The cheeseburger analogy is misleading because it's implying that we should just stfu and buy stuff without questioning anything. I remember that I posted here and asked how they planed the whole commander thing in terms of money before I bought the game. It was obvious that ce owners get commanders other users wouldn't get but previous to the release of the game (and even before the release of the first commanders) I didn't read ANYTHING about buying every single commander.

I guess relic has 'no choice' to charge that kind of money since the player base of this game is rather marginal (steam stats). F2P only works with a huge player base but I feel cheated, that I pay full price and are forced to spend even more money to enjoy the whole content. I already stopped investing much time in it, guess I pay that 12 EUR for the portal pack of dota 2 - because investing money there doesn't give me any advantages over other players.

Maybe we don't but I know how to run a business because I have a business of my own. You're studying to be a fucking nurse, you know nothing about numbers.

Sticking a finger up someones ass though.. oh yes, that you do know how to do. I see where the anger is coming from.

Rest assured that they have people looking at the numbers and if they see that hey, we're making alot of money off of this new dlc content. There's a demand for addons for this or that product, lets make more addons, maps or whatever. That's marketing 101 for ya.

I prefer this over having a new vCOH where nothing new was added for over great periods of time.

I pity you. Really, I do.

Anyways, hf with your business selling hotdogs or whatever it is you do.

Meanwhile I'll be gainfully employed as a nurse and eventual entrepreneur long after your "business" has crashed and burned under your uneducated auspices. I continue happily through life in the company of my numerous millionaire businessman buddys from my school days, including 2 years of business studies, who would never accept a peasant like you into their midst.

If you knew who I am IRL, you'd seriously never get over the inferiority complex.
Your a dime a dozen, and about as valuable, special or worthwhile as a bent penny.

PS: You'd better start saving money for your families and your own eventual and imminent illnesses and treatement requirements. Because with the attitude you have towards nurses, you had better be able to afford some pretty specialised care, cos myself and colleagues like me will just drop you and your family to the bottom of the pile for that kind of attitude.

Cool story bro. Now get out.

On another note, do post your facebook profile and show off how uber your life is :)

Now that my business is able to run without too much interference from me I'm considering taking up my old dream to become an airline pilot but yea, I'm sure I'd be incredibly jealous of a damn nurse. Jeez bro, wake up.

So yea, please do point out what I should be jealous about. To be honest, I'd say I'd laugh at you if I saw you irl. Inferiority complex? yea, your stache is impressive, that's about it.

If your friends accepted you into their midst, a negative asshole in need of anger management then I pity them. They don't have to accept me into their midst, I would never put myself in the company of Beta males like you and your crew.

After all your alpha male talk all you can think of is that I most likely beat my gf too? Yeah, cool story bro.

I'm not rude to anyone but you because you always start off your replies with shit like LEARN TO READ or GO SCREAM AT A WALL YOU FAIL AT UNDERSTANDING EVERYTHING.

I usually treat people nice but when I encounter forum warriors like you with thousands of posts I just can't stand the bullshit your type often manage to produce. Treat people the way you would like to be treated. Telling a complete stranger he fails at everything and that he should go scream at a wall is enough to get me started.

B) We don't know where the DLC money goes.

When YOU are the angry jackass who came out with that shit in the first place.

You fucking lost it, flipped out and started getting personal when I pointed out to you that:
A) Nobody has claimed they can't afford the DLC, as if that was fucking relevant anyways.
B) We don't know where the DLC money goes. Whether its directly to funding Relic development or softer toiletpaper for Sega's CEO, we simply don't know.

You utterly lost it at that point and began with personal insults.
I suspect you have rage issues IRL as well, thats why I ask if you beat your GF too, cos from my perspective, it would certainly fit the profile I'm getting off you.
