I played COH1 a ton, and some COH2 on first release, then quit.
I bought the US forces when they came out but never really got into it again. I'm now looking at the game again with the brits coming up.
Could anyone tell me anything about the current meta for 1v1 or maybe point me towards any articles or replays I can study?
I used to play the germans (ostheer) mainly, 1v1 preferred but I'm trying to get a general idea about where the game is nowadays.
Getting back into COH2, info?

Definitely more fun to watch than play at the game's current state. The OCF tournament is coming up, watch that and see if u want to get back into it.

Consistently so for some while now. If we dont believe in data, then its still at least one of the stronger 1v1-factions and not to be advertised with "still sucks, don't use them".

USF:
against OKW spread your rifle man early but keep close and circle the kubel, mid game blob your rifle man and give each sq bazooka and BAR, if you see OKW T4 smoke and attack ground with bazooka blob.
against OH, depend on game play if he heavy HMG spam spread your unit rush for AA HT and stuart. if he play heavy gren, blob is your friend.
SU:
against OH: Maxim spam is back or combine arm, so you can do that. then rush to Quadx2 if you have fuel domination or 1 Quad into SU76 spam
against OKW: can use con or maxim spam then to Quad then SU76 spam
OKW:
against USF, rush for flak HT if you go mech, or get double field gun if you go medic, other wise you can't hold them off then spam P4
against SU: rush for puma if you go mech to fight Quad or T70, or double AT gun early and a field gun if you go med then spam P4
OH:
against USF: get double HMG42 and lmg gren and a mortar or 2 then get some pack after that choose p4 or panther.
against SU: get HMG42 gren and mortar at least a pack around 5 min mark, then P4
UKF no idea

To the OP there have been some significant shifts in the game including the original factions. Most recently teching costs have been changed to delay tanks and allow ostheer to skip tier 1 if they wish. In practice soviet now has a dominant light vehicle phase with m5 quads' t70 and su76 (swapped tiers for t34) while ostheer gets mg in t0 (all mgs suppression has been buffed). U.S. Can get early Stuart and tend to play captain first rather than lt. OKW has cheaper sturmpios and the raken werffer is buffed. Puma is a powerful counter to soviet mid game.
More changes next week with changes to flames and aoe followed by another balance patch in few weeks

As far as I know the old ISU-152 was fixed after WFA release.

Its not just about balance though is it - I remember units moving like treacle, peer to peer networking, infantry running up to each other standing toe to toe and having to throw grenades to actually kill anything, original tiger ace commanders, snipers in clown cars, uber obers, IS2 / tiger spam / su85 spam, blizzards every few minutes, pripyet marshes, maxim spam (hold on...) need i go on?

Why did they switch to "Top 150" from "top 200"?
How come we never get #s for top 1000 or 2000 (those would all be active players)? That isn't necessary for balance, but it would mean something about the marketability, playability and popularity of a faction.

Site says some data got corrupted.
