Not sure how much effort has been put into optimizing the website. I have been personally looking into it a lot to reduce load time of the stats. So I wanted to point to some suggestions.
If you have a look at the site the loading of UI elements are not compressed:

It may be good to put bigger restrictions on avatars, as currently the site is automatically resizing them already.
Furthermore it may be good to put some caching expiry times on the various UI or smiley elements that won't change for a while.

I have no real knowledge on web design, but tbh, recently, the site has gotten slower and slower (earlier today I simply closed the site simply because I was having a very slow repsonse time)
When the game ships, there's the possibility that forum population and traffic will boom... just saying.

this definilty needs to be looked into. even if the betas on and you guys want to ply beta having the site go down at coh launch is not a good thing.
