A_E and Stormless announced today during World Championship 2020 stream on Relic Entertainment channel that next balance patch is for the first quarter of 2021.

But I wouldn't count on anything long after AoE4 is released.
Maybe it's 'cause the Axis players aren't a bunch of forum crybabies, and they keep their cool and fight the uphill battle, unlike some of their "allied" counterparts.

This is a pleasant surprise! Hopefully the Soviets can have a mid-game that doesn't hinge almost entirely on the T-70 or a late-game that doesn't hinge almost entirely on the SU-85.

However, I hope that they fully plan on at least two patches. The way AE phrased it made it sound like a major rework targeting core issues of the factions. Obviously there will be strong need for readjustments afterwards, no chance that the changes all hit the nail on the head first try.

Agreed! I would like to see 2 patches:
1. The first should tackle over performing units like the SU-152, 5 men grens etc. That could be done relatively fast and give the team the chance to see how the changes pan out.
2. The second bigger patch should focus on core issues of the factions.
I would also love to see some commander related changes too: Nerfs to Su-152 commanders and Jaeger Armor for example and small changes / buffs to completely under performing commanders.

Remember it's not all about balance in the sense of statistical tweaking, there are likely going to be a reshuffle of core army units and teching as well which will breathe new life into the game.

This has been done again and again and we end up with a new unit dominating the meta with the old one sent to oblivion.
I would rather thing that need fixing for year like :
XP values
Vet bonuses
Pop
build times
reinforcement times
reinforcement costs
look at and have small changes that bring units/abilities/commander closer to be equally cost efficient so that there more diversity.
