The game is dreadful for team game players, gets so boring so quickly. 1v1 is the only viable mode right now, none of the team game modes have enough maps. Including 2v2
Yet, community maps is not even on the list. Wouldn't any competent manager make this #1 priority before release even? If you know you are going to be low on maps and will take time to make some, wouldn't you start making sure you can bring in outside work?
Two maps for 3v3 and 4v4? I have seen free download game demos with more content than Coh3 has.
This is the thing that sucks the life right out of me even remotely hoping Coh3 will ever be good. There is no one at the wheel with the slightest clue what is going on around them.
And the roadmaps are like "The house is completely engulfed in flame so we are going to a pull the kitchen table out and maybe next month the couch".
Zero sense of urgency at all. Even after 120 people got let go. I just dont have the words to describe this level of incompetence. Maybe someone can help. |
Journalists are a joke, so it is up to the people to voice the negativity.
This. This is the answer. All of those 8/10 ratings from journalists are complete garbage. There is no one left to hold anyone accountable. Only the negativity of users.
To be fair to the journalists, they probably are not hardcore RTS or Coh fans. So I could almost forgive them. And most likely they were told the same lies we were. Its gonna be great, we will fix all of this stuff before release.
Not sure how anyone could score 8/10 for an alpha release game. Unless they only played thru the campaign for a few minutes and it didnt crash or bug out. First skirmish or multiplayer you get smacked in the face with a disappearing stats screen. Which has to be the worst bug of all time. Thats like Programming 101 stuff. 8/10. WTF?

Too bad peaple like being negative all the time.
You cant even see the final stats page 4 months after release. How can anyone think people are being negative when shit like this exists? The game is clearly not even in alpha stage yet.
Most people are just being realistic. Too much easy to fix stuff is still broken or missing.
About 20% of reviews I read are just maniacs going off about arcane issues. The bulk of reviews have valid reasons like the game is unfinished.
I agree with you and SupremeStefan, for many people the game doesn't have to be 100% done to be fun. And if people are having fun without all of the details that is very cool. Thank you for keeping the game alive. We appreciate your efforts. I continue to hope the player base will grow.
For me personally, the Q MODE mod tried to fix the main issues I have. But even that did not work for some things. And that would only fix Custom games. So I still sit on the sidelines waiting. |
Most reviews are people who have played the previous games.
So you get 4 reviews:
- Positive - Game is unfinished but its fun to play.
- Negative - Game is unfinished, do not give money for unfinished games.
- Negative - Game is trash, missing features, maps, etc. Sucks compared to Coh2.
- Negative - Game is trash. Unhinged reason like I lost to Pgrens once.
Basically 90% of reviews are a negative reaction. Even the positive reviews. If I was a casual, I would not buy this game after reading ANY reviews. Good or bad.
But this off-topic stuff speaks to other games. Another reason why I like to hear what other users are playing. I look at most games, search bad reviews and decide not to buy the game. Even games with a high percentage of positive reviews. There is always one nugget of data that makes me say nope.
I miss the good ole days where you bought a game on disc with no option of update. The game had to be good and it never changed. If someone said "Its good" you knew it. Now, it was good 6 months ago but now it has microtransactions out the ass so its trash. So you never know if its good or bad.
Do game companies rely on this uncertainty now? Sure, push out some unfinished trash as long as its good eventually we will be fine. |
so are traditional gaming forums in general. Go to Discord or Reddit if you want activity
I made a Discord server. Took all of an hour or so. Then realized Discord sucks balls just like everything does these days. Completely half-assed garbage made by dildroids. |
but I don't get the hate
I apologize. After reading some new reviews, hate might be the right word.
"I would rather drag my balls through 100 yards of broken glass with musho the dragon giving me a blowjob while a giant mouse trap clamps down on my toes than play this game."
"I was very much looking forward to this game. It sucks. COH2 is superior in every aspect. The graphics suck, the voice overs are hilariously bad. Just a bad game. I wouldn't even pirate it."
"HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE let down, why not just throw crap at the ceiling fan while your at it. i dont think any amount of reworking or dlc will fix this abomination they created to cater to xbox and ps5 folk."
"This franchise is dead, singleplayer feels rushed and awful, im not even gunna go into the africa campaign, prolly one of the worst campaigns ive ever played in my life tbh. graphics are downscaled for console peasants. Gameplay and aesethetic feels off (music, art direction, voice acting), the destruction feels cheap aswell as the sounds. 4Uck you relic. Seriously, fire these clowns..."

In case you play smth else good for you, but I don't understand the hate for coh3 it is a decent alternative to coh2.
From my interactions, people dont like so many aspects of the game. I dont think anyone hates it. Its just broken or unfinished. To me its not even at the alpha stage yet. Which is why I have not even played it. Once it is done I may look at it again. Until then, I will do something else.
In case you are hardcore coh2 fan thats also fine, but I don't get the hate and then suggesting playing a game completly unrelated to the franchise
As fans of Coh and its mechanics, it is interesting to see what other games people are playing. Especially if they are RTS based. I see a lot of coh players end up on a completely unrelated game type like FPS.
I dont play video games, so I have no suggestions. Coh is the only game I play. So I am writing code for fun. But I would investigate other games along the RTS genre that are mentioned here. Probably never play them. But at least look.
I have been itching to write a game based on controlling a squad (4 or 5 heroes). It would move and act similar to coh. Closest game I have seen so far is Aliens Dark Descent. But I dont think the heroes can move individually, which is not what I am looking for. |
Overall, Relic's workflow seems to be highly rigid and inflexible. That's how stupid decisions get pushed through up to the final version, because the decision has been made early on, issues came up in between but now you can't adjust anymore. That's why the July patch couldn't be changed anymore after the layoffs in May. That's two months for a simple patch, and they can't change it. That's really crazy. Player names two months after launch. More maps only after massive complaints fours months after launch. Community maps not-sure-when, months after the community started pushing for them. Replays in fall, half a year post launch.
They're doing the right thing, they're getting stuff in that the community wants. But it always looks a couple of months late. And the game might not have/have had those extra couple of months.
All of this.
Looking at the Reddit complaints I see people saying they are not getting games on PS5. Others say its fine on Xbox. But the official ladders show similar player counts, maybe even leaning to PS5. |
SkippyFX. You might see me on there
Can you really call SkippyFX a Coh3 Discord? Has he ever even played Coh3? Why did he stop streaming? Was it all Coh3's fault?
Hmmm, maybe I should make my own Discord... yes....yessss......But org is the best possible Coh place ever made. Discord sucks compared to Org. Oh well, Discord it is... stay tuned.... |
When Coh3 was released I looked at it for a minute and said "I will never play this game, Relic has no idea what they are doing". So I moved on at release. Been writing a VST for guitar and have not looked back.
The real question at this point is "Should Coh3 die and go away"? It is so far from a good game it is not funny. This would maybe save some of the Coh2 player base. But I think most vets will not come back anyway. They are so bored of Coh2 they are playing Coh3 1v1 just to play something different. Not because they want to play it. Not because it is remotely good.
If there was at least one part of Coh3 that was working, I would just wait it out. But graphics are broken, game is broken, UI is broken, sound is broken, replays don't exist, spectate doesn't exist, no maps, team games are broken, World Builder sucks, Match Making still sucks, etc etc etc.
They screwed up every single aspect of an easy to make no brainer game. How can anyone have any hope they will be able to fix it? They dont even know what they are trying to make? Most Relic employees dont even play the game.
At this point the best possible thing Relic could do is stop supporting Coh3. Come out with Coh4 in 2-3 years. At least there will be some hope and interest when that releases and maybe have a shot at getting a real player base. But so many people got burned with DOW3 and now COH3, even that is a long shot.
They had one chance of not failing and they tossed it in the fire. All I see is studio closure in their future. |
