Nigel:
I added a section to my previous post for your consideration.
In addition to that, some more questions:
1) What % of your teamgames are with an arranged team?
2) What is your ratio of axis to allies matches in those arranged teams?
3) How many arranged matches have ypu won as either Axis/Allies?
3) Are you, or are you not, arguing that Allies is OP in 2v2+?
1) Not many
2) Pretty much the same. It's hard for me to get a group together either way, so I usually go random. The times I've won with random players is when the other team sucked bad, or we just all happened to be on the same page, and the magic happened.
3) If by arranged match, you mean with a good team using voice, as Allies, maybe 2-3 out of 10 ? As Axis, playing with randoms, not using voice comm, closer to 8/10.
4) I think you mean UP ? If that's the case, then I will say that yes, in late game they are, with the notable exception of the IS/ ISU. By itself, however, it can't really turn the tables. This ties in with my point that at 15 mins or less, you can have a good, competitive game where Allies can definitely hold their own. After that, they get overwhelmed.
You made it an Axis vs Allies issue though, rather than a 3v3+ game issue.
Its a veiled "buff" Allies post, no matter how you cut it.
Do you play with established teammates that youhave planned with and communicate with on voice during match?
Look, I know it's a controversial topic. I am not a game developer, so I don't know how to fix it. These are my observations. I'm not really asking for an outright buff for Allies. I don't think that getting a Pershing, or making some units stronger, faster, etc...is necessarily the way to go. I also understand the idea behind faction design. I'm just saying that in large team games, playing the Allies is definitely much more unforgiving of ANY mistake, and requires really tight team play. Yes, I have played with a team using voice comms. It does help, of course, but the fact still stands: we are not allowed to make mistakes. Furthermore, as has been stated, sometimes it really is a map issue as well. Having also played Axis in large team games, I know that I can lose units, push deep into enemy lines, without sweating it too much. I can stage a comeback from 163 points to their 485, again without too much trouble.
Anyway, this is a good discussion , with good points being made by lots of people. I will say, that when we win as Allies after a long battle, it definitely feels like way more of an actual victory than when I've played as Axis and never really had any doubt about the outcome.
And its good they way it is. Atleast they can focus on the gamemode that is attractive to experienced, long term players and not on the game mode that is made for the casual crowd.
Nice. What percentage of people who play this game qualify as experienced, long-term players ? What business model recommends alienating the remaining percentage that fall into the "casual" category ?
I know that this is basically a troll thread, but what OP said can be true both ways. If you're ever just stuck frustrated as one faction, try another. There are 4 factions in this game, why limit yourself just to 1 or 2? I didn't play Soviet till like 2 months after I started playing because I was more comfortable playing Ostheer, and quickly found that Soviets were my favorite faction.
No, it's not a troll thread. I did not write that post to elicit negative reactions or inflame popular opinion. I was reiterating what others had said re: balance in large team games, while also stating that by perfecting your micro as Allies, you might still lose, but it will make you an outstanding Axis player afterwards; beyond the usual cheesy Axis strats. If you had read the post, you might have realized that this implies that I did try other factions (Ostheer). The only one I haven't played so far is OKW.
Something that would be so rad would some kind of random element generator for the maps. For those of you who played Diablo, you know that every time you come back to a map, it will have been changed in some ways. That might be neat in this game since a lot of maps tend to be formulaic; i.e. : take this building and that building, and the game's half won. This results in a mad scramble at the beginning of the game where everyone is rushing for that building. Lienne Forest is pretty bad for that, but really all maps have that. Angermuende is also really bad for that. If somehow the maps could stay mostly the same, but just randomly move buildings around, that would be awesome.
Yeah, but you won... OH I see you want to dominate in the early game and late game and let the Axis players just sit in their base for an hour.
No. No one said anything about "dominating". I want the same experience as anyone else; a fun game that allows me to use my units in the context of longer strats. If you're an Axis player, how does it feel when you start a game and within 5 mins the entire opposing team quits ? Yes, you won, but do you really get that "fuck yeah ! I won !" feeling ?
As far as I'm concerned, this game isn't, or shouldn't be about "dominating". It's a strategy game, which implies it should involve the complexities of small unit tactics, cooperation among team-mates, micro, and judicious use of commander abilities ...all of which should pay off.
According to what we read on this forum, the ones playing against axis in team modes are martyrs that sacrifice themselves so that other can have good games.
Yeah, pretty much. The rare times you win as Allies is either because the opposing team really REALLY sucks, or because you pounded them in the early game, and it's over in 15 mins. Yay. Didn't even get to field any of my cool shit.
Been WRECKING axis in 4v4's lately. You need to play with high ranked players. I have many high ranked players on my friends list. So when ever i play a 4v4. i get invited or invite others. i Rarley play alone.
The sad part is how most of the axis player that play 4v4's think they are gud. But when they fight of group of player who have almost completly mastered the game. We get called, hackers, cheaters, etc...
The most amusing thing is how bad most axis 4v4 players are. Breaking their bubble is the best thing in the world.
Well, I'd love to play with some good players. I'm "Patches_O'Hoolahan" on Steam.
for such an "epiphany" its not really well thought out, presented and tbh im not sure it even can be qualified as an epiphany.
my opinion on the topic non withstanding. he has every right to make this thread reguardless of your/my/bob joe's opinions about it. if a moderator thinks a thread is breaking of the rules he will deal with it. posting "off topic" in the thread isn't the proper way to handle this we have a report button for that. also someones trash may very well be someone else's treasure.
if you think a thread is breaking the forum rules please use the report button. if you dislike the contents for whatever reason. there is the option to ignore it or explain why you disagree.
TL;DR
Well, I'm not sure how much more "well thought out" it needs to be. Granted, the topic isn't revolutionary, but I was merely saying that playing Allies in team games is good practice for becoming an outstanding Axis player. As for presentation, again, sorry I don't have a PowerPoint presentation for you. And by definition, an epiphany is subjective. Anyway, yes, this was partly a rant, and partly me sharing an amusing thought that came to me. But hey, at least my post didn't feature the words "Pershing", "OP", or "spam", right ?
