I hate blobs too. People aren't complaining that it destroys blobs. It's that it can auto-delete single units too and with great ease. Two clicks.
90 muni is quite expensive but it's a cheap exchange for 250-400 manpower + upgrade (shrek/lmg).
If it was only destroying blobs, I wouldn't mind it so much. But it removes units one by one all through the game. The only way to avoid it is to lead every attack with a minesweeper, to harass every point with a minesweeper. To do that you have to wait for them to get to the field. So you lose territory which means more munis for more demos.
If both sides had demo, the game would become less dynamic with people waiting for sweepers so they can make attacks. If neither side had them the game would be much better.
There are several threads on this with some very high level players calling for its removal and no high level players saying "it's fine". I just wish the less experienced players with a lower understanding of CoH2 and RTS would look to what the top players are saying instead of defending it on the basis of "it makes me feel good when I blow up squads with demo, therefore it's good". or "Axis has OP-Soldaten so we need demos"
Ah...the old "you're not good enough to weigh in with an opinion" gambit.
True, I am certainly not a pro, but this community is made up of good and bad players, and I would venture to say that the percentage of "pros" is quite low. I imagine it's quite fun to play at that level of skill, but for those of us that work, have families, etc...and can't devote as much time to practice, it's very discouraging to be faced with a game that has been tweaked and balanced for the "pros".
Even more discouraging when, all things considered, Axis is more powerful in large team games, and demos are one advantage the Allies get. Please note, I'm talking about large team games. Yes, yes, I know...."play 1v1", "only noobs play team games", "get an arranged team"... bottom line, I really don't think that demos as they are, are unfair. Lots of stuff that the Axis can do, against "non-pro" players can be seen as "unfair". However, for the sake of argument (because nothing is likely to change anyway), why not create a package of baseline units for all factions ? I think it's ridiculous that USF doesn't get snipers, mines, mortars, or MGs (non-doctrinal). I won't pretend to know what's involved in balancing a game this complex, but when faced with the multitude of issues that people bring forward on these forums, Allied demos seems like a pretty trivial one. As someone has already said, they don't get deployed that often anyway... |
Demos are fine the way they are. 90 muni isn't cheap, even less so if you wanna pull the ol' demo/mine combo, and Axis don't need anything else to stack the deck in their favor. As someone has already said, sorry if your shrek/ LMG blobs are getting destroyed by demos; maybe learn a more balanced approach to combat, instead of attack moving your blob ? |
Hi all, this will probably be a simple question for some of you- how do you earn CPs more quickly ? It seems that a lot of times, I can't get to my good call-ins before I get stomped. Any help is appreciated. |
I agree with freedom for quitters ! It doesn't get any more black and white than : why should I suffer through a crappy game, where my allies suck, or one person doesn't want to surrender because "we got this!", just so you can enjoy yourself ? How is your time/ enjoyment more important than mine ? I'd rather leave that game, and find a new one. You're welcome to do the same. After all, I play mostly Allies, and it becomes fairly obvious when you're not going to win. Yes, I will always try to surrender first, because that's the gentlemanly thing to do, but I also won't waste an additional 30 mins messing about when its a foregone conclusion. I could already be in another game. You probably already know this, and it has been said many times, but random auto comes with many pitfalls. This is one of them. Get yourself some friends on there, and play an arranged game. |
Great, I'll try that, thanks. |

Here's an annoying problem that occurs sometimes when I get into a game; as soon as the game starts, it seems like I'm stuck in the "change camera angle" mode. As if I were holding down the key that you would use to change your view, except I'm not holding it down, and I can't get out of that mode. I've tried hitting backspace twice. The only way I can do anything is by holding down the CTRL, which then allows me to do stuff, but only when actively holding it down. Any ideas ? Usually I have to quit, and re-try.
GORILLA TACTICS!
Why, that's just bananas ! Although I admit that it has a-peel ! |
Long story short: no.
lol. yeah...short story even shorter : yes. For all the reasons already mentioned. |
Most of you who play Allies probably won't need to hear this, but based on my recent team game match-ups, a lot do:
When playing Allies, realize this- CAMPING RARELY/ NEVER WORKS !
Please don't just mass a huge blob of assorted units and camp them somewhere, thinking that you'll be safe and there's no way that the Axis will ever get that point from you. You're wrong. Every second that passes with the Axis holding at least one fuel point, is a step closer to the armored column that WILL run you over and take that point, destroying all your units in the process. So here's my tip :
When playing Allies- MOVE ! Be fluid, flank, use buildings, obstacles, etc....to get into position. Don't get complacent, and DON'T stay in one spot. The advantage Allies have is this fluidity. You need to constantly be de-capping, capturing, etc...
The Axis can afford to stall until late game. Allies can't. If allowed to get to late game with even a bit of the map, Axis will win. (in large team games).
So : be aggressive ! Again, maybe some of you know this, but clearly, some don't. There is nothing in the Allied make-up or philosophy that encourages camping. |
Honestly, if I'm not having a fun game, I'm not sure why I should be forced to watch my units get destroyed over and over again because some guy who doesn't know the writing on the wall doesn't want to surrender.
I play games for fun, if they're not fun then I'll leave, simple. Life is too short.
I hate leaver penalties in all games because they force you to play in games which simply aren't fun or games where you are just out matched. It's stupid, childish and goes against the whole idea of games being a past time rather than some kind of second job which some people seem to think they are...
If such a thing were to be implemented, the whole player base would be hurt even more. There would be more abusive players, who know they can't leave so take out their anger on their team, there would be more team killing, particularly of bases, because people realise they can't win. It'd be a microcosm of Dota2 or Hon's or LoL's communities, and those communities have to be some of the most revolting I've ever seen.
+ 100000000
I also hate getting locked into a team game where my allies keep refusing to surrender, and where you know you're going to lose within the first 10 mins. You know what, it's a team game. That means that as fun as they can be, there's also a chance you'll get stuck with people who: suck, are abusive, or will drop if they dont like something about that game. It goes both ways though; you can't honestly tell me that you LIKE being forced to play through a sh itty game. |
