Axis dominating in big teamgames? No shit. It will be unbalanced, it always was. You cant fix it. Get over it.
So....what ? Just don't play team games as Allies ? You may as well just remove that game mode entirely then, or allow Axis to play vs Axis. |
Hi all,
Just wanted to share a thought with those of you who, like me, desperately want to play Allies but realize that it's a losing proposition.
Think of it this way...if you constantly wrack your brain to come up with better ways of playing, hone your micro, and practice, prctice, practice.....you probably still won't win. Let's face it; late Axis is crazy, and unless you win before 15 mins are up, you won't at all, or rarely.
BUT, if you take a deep breath, and do what pretty much everyone else is doing , and play Axis, you'll find that it is drastically easier ! All that practice, all that micro and small unit tactics will pay off when playing Axis. It's like trying to drive a race in a Pinto, and practicing in a Pinto, then getting a Ferrari.
Seriously, try it. I am a dedicated Allied player, both USF and Soviet, and just got so goddamn sick of losing all the time. I finally said fuck it, let's go Axis, and finally enjoy some games.
It really is so much easier. I even felt like I had to apologize to the opposing team, like, "sorry guys...I know Axis is crazy..". Something that still irritates me though, are those players that only play Axis and think they're good. As far as I'm concerned, Axis = EZ mode. But it does offer a nice change of pace from being stomped all the time as Allies.
PS. yes, I'm talking about large team games, 3v3, 4v4. Yes, I realize that 1v1 exists, no, I don't want to play that mode. Large team games are a part of this game, and they desperately need fixing. |
Like many here, I love and hate playing 3v3 or 4v4. I love prolonged games, even though it is a fact that Axis will typically win if allowed to survive into the late game. I like being able to field most of my units, i like coordinating with good team mates, and seeing a good use of combined arms. The cons are basically what everyone has already said: past the 15 min mark, it's pretty much a certainty that Axis will win. The larger games WILL stick you with noob/ incompetent/AFK team mates MOST of the time. And yes, the spam factor. My last game featured the fabled sturmpio/ kubel opening, with no less than 7 kubels and 6 sturmpios attacking one part of the map. Even this wouldn't have presented a huge problem, if it weren't for my idiot team mate, who didn't seem to grasp the basics of the game; i.e.: attack with your units. I do play Ost on occasion, just to ensure that I am not biased, and yes, it is easier to win by far. Basically survive till mid game, and win. Soviets are the only real competition at that stage, as USF will have lost any advantage they might have enjoyed in the early game. So, in larger games, another pet peeve is that there is one whole faction (USF) that is essentially useless. Past the 15 min mark, they become a minor inconvenience to Axis. I really wish I could play USF in large games and have fun, but alas...this only works if your Sov team mate understands that he needs to back you up, and support your early game aggression. See my point re: retarded team mates. |
+1
Yes, a lot of people that play really DO want to have it easy. They're the same ones who whine about how Allies are so OP. What I find especially amusing is how some of those same individuals talk smack during the game, like, "lol....so easy !".
I always enjoy playing the underdog. When Soviets were OP, I played Axis. Now, I play USF exclusively...I just wish there were more options than win in 15 mins or give up. Some people might say, "well, just play Axis then", but I REFUSE to play a faction just because it's easier. |
It sure is...now all Relic needs to do with is it up so that when Allies hit the 20 min mark, and haven't won yet, they auto-surrender. |
I'll give you a hint: it has to do with holding out till late game then steamrolling everything with armor spam. |
And why do you think everyone seems to be playing Axis ? Any guesses ? |
Hi all,
As automatch seems to be broken, and I am sick of being saddled with people who either : suck, go AFK, or are plain retarded, I'd like to match up with decent allies.
I'm no pro, but have a sound grasp of game mechanics, and the current meta. I favor aggressive tactical play, and usually go Airborne, or Rifles, so I'd like my allies to be more strategic; build caches, tanks, support, etc...
I'm in the eastern time zone, and I'm Patches_O'Hoolahan on Steam. Hope to see you there. |
I've stopped them with a fighting position, manned by RET, and supported with rfn or paras; if you know where the blob will be going, e.g. VP. I think an AAHT might do the job as well, or paras with LMGs and grenades. |
I've seen this happen as well. But I don't think its a problem. Generally a good OKW player well be able to se that they are loosing the mid game and fall back just as allied players spread out to capture points. They will fall back to a forward base and try and conserve resources by falling back before loosing too much manpower then build a heavy tank and push out in one big blob. I've found that US forces need combined arms to deal with OKW armor. A combination of infantry AT as well as AT guns and armor.
if we are talking about super heavy tanks like the king tiger that requires an entire army working together to take it out. Tanks by themselves can't stop this thing unless you flank it and stay behind it.
also (I can't stress this enough) always review the replay of any game u lose. First try and identify who was your main opponent if it was a team game and review the post game stats, when did his army value jump? When did yours drop? When did they start floating resources?
then review the replay, identify when and where you lost individual battles. Was there something you could have done to counter? Were you beaten because they were playing better then u? Did u have to fight off more then one player and not get any support? Were there any signs that they were building up to heavy tanks? Try and remember at what time they got the heavy armor out and in future games keep that in mind as the time ticks on.
Its difficult for US to counter German late game tanks. OKW have the most powerful heavy tanks in the game and if they keep their infantry alive they are tough as hell to kill when they are vet 5. That combined with regular German army spamming panzer IV, but it can be done. I played a 4v4 last night all US vs 2 OKW and 2normal German armies and we were able to kill at least two King tigers. So I know it can be done.
also post your replays so other people can maybe see something you missed.
Great advice, thanks. I don't usually look at post-game stats, but I will. I've just won a couple of games as Americans, and it was because we were very aggressive and basically took all the resources early then kept harassing. I don't mind that, but it kind of bothers me that you basically HAVE to do that, or your chances of winning as Americans go down to slim to none, if you allow Axis to go into late game. You are correct though, in that some games I play, one or two allies are terrible. That's what I get for playing 4v4, or 3v3 though I guess... |
