Thats what rifle upgrades and call in units are for: to cover the gaps from the tiers you chose.

Whenever I use lightening war, I just dont have the muni for the strafe. Between G43s, tanks MGs, a couple tellars, fuasts, occasional rifle nades etc I just dont have the muni.
Also im starting to feel like I prefer going 1 P4 into Tiger rather than 2 Stug E into Tiger. P4 is more durable and useful long term and allows you to use a tiger doc with more useful abilities.
Its hard to ignore elite troops as well, instant vet 2 P4s is like Ost only equivalent to 34/85s or Easy 8s. Which bridges the mid game nicely and eventually leads to the Ace. Armour preservation is particularly important here though. |
Just make sure you first field 2 grens for each MG on the field. Just like you wouldnt have mortars operating on their own.
I agree USA has all the tools to deal with them.. however they can be a thorn in USAs side. So just dont get too many right away, and heavily support them and micro them also. |
It is bloody hard work trying to play Ost. Im on the brink of just reverting back to perm soviet player. |
Would be awesome if someone could do a comprehensive guide to Werh early game starts vs usa.
Im really struggling with that match uo |
I like T1 T4.
Loads of cons plus an M3 flamer engie gives easy map control. Focus on denying early fuel.
If you succeed, they will get a pak for AT, build a Katy as 1st unit and punish the little defence of pak and MGs.
I like T4 for many reasons:
SU85 has more bite if they get strong tanks, and is perfect synergy with con spam which will prevent SU85 being flanked (AT nades), so 1 SU85 is more viable on its own.
Same for Katy, they cant reach it thanks to hordes of cons (in theory).
Katy+Bombing run > T34s for AI. |
If only the were more legit commander options. I love experimenting and thinking outside the box with commanders, its more satisfying and can potentially surprise your opponent.
However, having said that, its hard to see past Elite Troops and Mechanised Assualt as Werh and Shock Rifle and Guards Motor as Sov
(OK sov has more viable options, but those 2 are mustard.. Werh is weaker on choices). |
Speaking purely IRL, having a higher rate of fire would allow you to spray over a wider area and still put enough rounds down to supress over quite a wide zone.
This is represented in game by the large arc. But not really the suppression output, because thats how it used to be, and it was OP and spammed. |
The design of OKW is to more easily hold a smaller section of the map (Forward retreat, Schwer HQ etc), and struggle with the extreme flanks slightly.
Kind of like Werh design, except more extreme.
MGs and mortars both help attack/hold territory away from your main front line, which is why they are missing or weakened for the OKW.
The ISG field gun, follows this. It works well near your main front line and base forward buildings. It does not work so well to assault away from your main front line. |
I never said Ost is perfect now. But they have improved, and are much closer matched to the others now IMO, esspecially as OKW came down a little.
What I did say, is be thankful they didnt overbuff something.. like scout car to the levels of a Panzer Elite Armoured Car for example.
