u can still get away even with those as it's not instant, tho i would agree that it needs some more micro, maybe designate an area or an angle of 45° that only works for counter barrage ?
I would take LITERALLY anything. The issue is the ability to 100% shut down anything that shoots in an arc with no effort at all.
i insist on that CB (until something of similar value is presented) is extremely valuable to axis, and is almost essential in some cases.
But so far i see few good suggestions of what to replace it with.
But i have these suggestions at the top of my head:
1. CB ''locks'' onto target as it currently is, but needs player input to actually engage/fire. basicly just clicking ''fire''
2. have a toggle on what range to CB on, close or far, with cooldown between them, will only CB within that zone until told otherwise, meaning a close enemy mortar would be safe ATM, when toggled to ''far mode'' and reverse.
3. have a toggle on what target CB to prioritize, light, medium or heavy artillery, with cooldown toggle
Simply make it not auto rotate. Then you have to find the enemy arty and set for a counter.
It can counter an AREA and that would be fine. Countering each and every single piece of indirect on the entire map without so much as a look at the unit once toggling it on is what makes it OP.
The slightest amount of thought being put into using it would help balance it.

It procs on zis, su76 and Scott barrages, as well as mortar barrages.
But yea, the priest and sexton can wheel away mid barrage so it's all good right?
Make t4 cheaper with only the t34 in it. Make mobilize more expensive to compensate and available in t3 but required for Katy and su85. Then you can rush the t34, or invest in infantry but in the end you still pay full price to be competitive against heavy Armour and blobs.

If someone in your allies team doesn´t pick recon plus arty and axis has lefh then your team made a bad commander decision

For perspective the ml-20 vet 1 is 1 extra shell
The lefh vet 1 is to, without a lick of micro, counter every single indirect option the enemy has.
Well, it doesn't really matter much which arty is there, the point is to have something to flush out opponent to come to you that isn't muni based.
B4 was there originally anyway after 1st rework.
Aye, the wombo combo that is recon and bomb would need changed from the meta commanders for something like that to work, but the b4 is certainly more AT than the ml20.
Exactly very few people would drive a tank in order kill a an artillery piece so the idea is flawed in its concept.
In addition a howizter that have great AI have little place in commander themed as AT. Currently the commander is that good in AT (there better commander for that job) while it surprisingly good in killing OKW truck with combination of artillery barrage and bombing. So I would say the commander has missed it AT orientation.
All howitzers have AI and AT. The b4 at least with its hit and miss attitude generally means you will focus on high impact targets like tanks. But yea diving a tank for arty isn't a thing so much.

I was big in arguing against the b4 in that commander, but I'm not sure if it got a change but I think it would fit now, granted there won't ever be a tank dive on it, it'll be recon and stuka bombed so I guess the point is moot.
Yes i agree there, but just giving grens sandbags cus other inf have them will completly shift cons grens balance fully towards grens. Making the molly free with t1 or t2 build wont do anything to counteract grens getting sandbags.
Imo fewer main lines should have sandbags not more.
Mollotov's are already not very good, making m a free unlock changes almost nothing, unlike giving grens sandbags.
You still gonna get wrecked on aproach even with oorah, still is easely dogded, the mg42 still supresses near instantly largly preventing even throwing it. Hence needing a hard nerf to balance grens building their own cover.
If it's free then at least being dog shit is somewhat justified. Paying for it and it being dog shit is just a shitty. Being forced to pay extra for AT nades to justify giving the molitovs is a bit of a slap
