It's hard for me to gauge high-level competitive 1v1s and the metagame since the vast majority of my 1v1s are custom matches or on LAN with friends which has a different sort of headspace than automatch. Thread: New modder!! A lot of modding questions!16 Feb 2017, 20:25 PM Out of curiosity are the mortars unable to fire outside their sight range? Can they barrage into the fow? Sight range and weapon range are very different values, and especially pertinent for indirect fire weapons. The mortars don't need sight in the trench /pit necessarily, so as long as it's sight is appropriate for any other unit using it like infantry or mgs. In: Modding and Tools

I play with germans most of time but i dont get it......no one will play soviet no more, and the allies already have a lower amount of players than the Germans I think the original intent was to nerf guards and put penals in their functional place. This idea didn't pan out for a multitude of reasons, and so guards are mostly being nerfed into just ptrs carriers, which tbh is still their primary role. In: COH2 Gameplay
Thread: Ostheer Panther16 Feb 2017, 14:46 PM USF was designed to hard counter Ostheer. OKW has been a cluster from the start. Brits were designed to be better than WFA. Soviets and Ostheer have always had some semblance of a chance at balanced matchups though. Just like Wehr v American was, and still does, remain fun and interesting in vCoH. In: COH2 Gameplay

Thread: British Mortar Pit Suggestion15 Feb 2017, 01:48 AM As far as artillery guns and heavy mortars not being able to rotate, I wonder if the answer lies in how ATG emplacements work. I wager when they garrison the artillery pit there'd have to be some sort of aiming and facing mechanism implemented to get them to function properly. Although now that I think about it, instead of "artillery pit" why not "fighting position"? MGs could be faced like in a garrison. Infantry could use it like a trench. This proposed mortar team could use it like a mortar pit. It could be capture-able by enemy squads. It'd fit the theme of the faction to have static positions, and infantry are already sort of supposed to garrison emplacements. In: COH2 Gameplay

While the Control + Page Up thing worked nicely with the texture splines, it doesn't seem to work with splats. Do I fail to smash the right buttons or is there some trick to this? I wish. Although I've found that using "shift+rightclick&drag" to be more useful than using 'optimum size'. Remember, optimized size is often relative to what kind of visuals you want. Also, some identical splats have different 'optimum sizes'. So, something to keep in mind when worldbuilding: the differences in texture resolution from splat to splat can be highly imperceptible, especially when you consider things like opacity and that many players aren't playing at 100% video specs. I've only ever cared about the layering of splats when there's overlap so I don't see a whole lot of functional difference. But I can say though that when I have issues, 9 out of 10 times "On Snow" is ticked. In: Mapping Discussion
Thread: Starting with the worldbuilder, a few questions...14 Feb 2017, 21:44 PM When ordering the layer of splats you have to select the splats you want to change the order of. So if you have a splat of road tracks over a crater, select both the tracks and crater, then use page up/down. Don't quote me on this but I think it is the last selected splat that gets 'cycled' through the layering. As far as splats and splines layering over each other, I think you just have to juggle between the two layers ordering. And like tric said, always be aware of the 'over snow' toggle. It can be your best friend and worst enemy at times. In: Mapping Discussion
