The summer sales are on for Steam and I was browsing games. Oh, AoE4 is on sale for $20. Hmm, I am not a fan of AoE2 but it might be worth messing around in it for $20.
Should I buy it? Can I buy it? If I buy it, can I even play it? Will I drop $20 on the game just to find out my Relic ban stretches to this franchise as well?
I have seen people perma banned in Coh2 that are playing Coh3. Somehow I am banned in both but they are not. Am I banned from future games? These people were not?
It is still an annoyance to me that I am banned from ONLINE PLAY but am unable to play OFFLINE in Coh2. I can play OFFLINE in Coh3. That is still simmering. More on this later.
WAY OFF TOPIC
While looking at AoE4 in Steam I saw the map editor was a DLC so it had its own reviews. You know how I love reading reviews. 25% approval and some of those are for mods and not map building. This editor sucks, its trash, why is it so hard to run, its super laggy, etc, etc.
That is when it dawned on me, this map editor is trash and has been trash for years and years and the morons at Relic have not fixed it. And once again, I guarantee I could go there and have it working tomorrow. How do you go to sleep at night knowing this stuff is in this shape??? Who does this???
I am at a loss how these people get out of bed and make it to work everyday. They do not seem to possess the intelligence to do it. I almost feel like we should be applauding them like we are at the special olympics "Good Job Billie! You did it! You're a winner!".
I would pay cash money to tour the building just to understand how this place is such a mess. |
are you not aware of the official .ORG discord server?
Is there such thing?
I see Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Twitch, Steam, and Google listed on the ABOUT section.
EDIT:
I think I found it from Google search. It appears to ask for a phone number to chat
Yeah, that's not happening. |
Top priorities for me:
Q MODE mod is a great start! |
As I said, I started a Discord server. The one thing that is great about Discord and other forums is the REACTIONS.
Having a LIKE button is fantastic. Really wish ORG had this. Would make conversations so much better when two people are going at each other. The likes would help people realize they are way on the other side of what most people like. |
RELIC BASED DISCUSSION
Another issue with not telling people how long they are banned is the ban is supposed to teach people the rules. This is meant to curb bad behavior and make the community better overall.
If someone is malicious and you have given them no term limit on a ban, they could assume they are perma-banned. And once perma-banned, there is no reason for them to stop the bad behavior. And now Relic would have no power to stop their behavior.
I still feel it would be best to give a reason and time limit. This encourages bad actors to learn and have a cool down period.
If you ban someone and they feel they should not have been banned, they may go into scorched earth mode. "Why be nice now, I was not treated nicely."
Counter arguments:
- If a person is an asshole enough to go scorched earth, good riddance. But this denies the person a cool down period and a chance to learn and become better at dealing with issues and people.
- If someone is told they are perma-banned they will go scorched earth because they have no cool down. By not telling them, they get a small cool down period.
Just another random thought. Still trying to see this from all angles. |
I take it no one has had issues with this being seen a a cheat and being banned. Cool. |
Also, Relic's opinion:
"The legendary strategy franchise is back! Bigger and better than ever, Company of Heroes 3"
I personally went from "Coh3 could fix all the issues and have CELO based functions built in. This is gonna be great!" to "Two maps, a skin store, and now a brand new comp stomp map! Oh boy!!!"
My expectations quickly fell to Duffman™ Crippling Depression™ levels.
I am clearly a giant idiot. I expected more from Relic. A lot more. |
I recently sat and thought what exactly is the threshold for many people to start coming back to Coh3.
SCENARIO:
You are a newly appointed manager at Relic. The game has failed to some extent. What will you focus on now to get people excited to play?
If you read Steam, you will probably want to add more content. If you read Steam/Reddit, you will think balance is off. You come here and you may think Coh3 is fine because it is mostly 1v1 player based, which seems to be playable right now.
I am a simple 4v4 MP person so my TOP 5 in order:
1) More maps. Community or otherwise.
2) Fix the disappearing stats page.
3) Make kill counts visible, not hover based.
4) Adjust the voice lines so they are not so dominant.
5) Fix the rendering pipeline. Specular lighting, gamma, etc.
Relic is having to filter a lot of noise right now. What do you think is really the problem with Coh3?
They seem to have a pretty good handle on things announcing new maps etc. The slow pace has many people worried, but what can you do. |
Interesting that the poll in the OP was mostly started out as YES FOR NOW dominated but has been slowly balancing out. |
You have a certain gift for underscoring the weaknesses. I don't know for how long this site lasts before some young blades finally seize the initiative and start their own site with an up-to-date board.(Discord does not count). I was sorry to see you had to leave staff, but I can see why it happened.
I appreciate the kind words. I know most people see me as toxic, but it comes from a good place. I would love nothing more than to shut the hell up and play Coh3.
And you are right, I hope people are not too beat down from layoffs. |
