I want paras to actually be a viable unit to deploy for the sake of this commander being called "Airborne". I detailed why they are not really meta in the OP and then made the argument they are not actually elite infantry since they drop faster than anybody else on the field at CP3 and beyond with their RA at 100% until vet 3.
To that regard Id be totally willing to do all sorts of things to further justify their being deployed earlier in the game, even if it means locking weapons upgrades or possibly minor nerfs to their carbines.
I just want these guys to be more useable, and for the USF meta right now that means they need to come earlier. Buffs (especially to veteramcy or starting RA) could make them more enticing at their current start point, but I still doubt you'll ever produce more than one squad even then.
Anyway, ive kind of realized this idea is too controversial right now. I didnt ask for buffs or major nerfs to paras, just an earlier deployment time, but the thread has somewhat moved on from that.
If CP1 is too much, though, Id love CP2.
When Relic moved Shock/Guards troops form CP 2 to CP 1 they totally dominated the field, Similar thing happen with other unit. Earlier deployment is a major Buff. Imo units that appear the same time as vanilla mainline infatry should be of the same power level. |

They are not. Their DPS for K98 is correct. They simply have x0.5 accuracy penalty and another x3 bonus when in cover. |

Losing to WC51 as Ostheer sounds like l2p issue. You've got snares, the MG42 and PzGrens all capable of killing it easily. Same with the M20, which also means your opponent has nothing to stop a 251 or 222 besides the LT.
I completely agree about strong units coming out too soon though, PzGrens are probably the quickest elite infantry to deploy ingame and can shut down light vehicle play all by themselves.

Penals have PTRS that happen to do exactly what you think doctrinal M-42 does.
And T2 soviets have *drumroll* ZiS-3.
Both of these units completely overshadow M42 currently, again.
All because lack of imagination behind canister nerf.
Canister being 30 sec timed ability for 25-30 muni with lower if needed RoF would completely fix the only, singular balance issue with M42 - effectiveness vs infantry when spammed.
Play the game already.
M-42 was over-performing after revamp and the decision to nerf was correct.
With the M-42 one can keep his Penal for AI. If one does not like the M-42 then one should simply not call it in.
M-42 is useful for what it does so its its tracking.

Yes, it is so fine that before the appearance of the canister shot, no one used the M-42 this unit was buried and forgotten. And overnerf this ability again killed a unit. Let's not build an illusion here and just remove the M-42 from all the commanders and replace it with more useful abilities.
Check the patch notes, the canister shot was not the only buff M-42 got.
The unit was over performing for cost and was adjusted, it does not need the canister shot to be useful and it good in its role: to counter light vehicles and and light tanks. |
Removing the canister shot from the M-42 makes it even more useless. After all, you have non commander ZIS-3, which is better in performance and has a useful anti-infantry ability. Take the M-42 for an ambush shot? Take the ZIS-3 camouflage commander.
M-42 is designed to counter light vehicles and light tanks, it's performance in that role just fine.
It cheap cost effective with lower pop and does not require tech. It's fine. |
M-42 already has a camo/first strike bonus and vehicle tracking as a vet 1 ability.
Simply removed canister shot and the unit will still be fine. |
Sorry for the off topic and probably stupid question, but I noticed that the OKW Tiger now has a new default skin, is that true or did I see a custom skin? Also were the voice lines for it fixed/added? Last time I played with/saw it had no default skin and no voice lines.
