I don't find them UP.
Whenever I pick them it's damn easy to get 30-80kills.
Shocks/Guards are nowhere close to such ease with killing infantry.
Once vet 2/3 they are unstoppable.
Old meta of Volks and then double Obers killing everything was truly broken. We dont want to see that again.
If game is in my favour and I don't need extra push with call-in infantry, I always go for Obers.
I cannot remember single game with Shocks/Guards/Rifles with 90kills, but I remember at few where Obers got over 80 kills.
Way to go by not reading what we are saying magic. We dont find their performance UP but their price.
in my opinion they only need to cost 320 mp and 8 popcap with 40 reinforcement cost because they are nothing more then better grenadiers. Sure their vet is powerful but thats why the okw gains only 66% fuel. |
We don't want to go back to Volk Ober blobs please. ALL LMG TROOPS alone nullified MGs which were hard countered against infantry and blobs. Obers STILL retain their ridiculous vet bonuses not to mention the fact they are phenomenal against infantry.
Fixed that for you. the rest of your post is just ignorance. everybody and their grandmother tells you that obers are inefficient and you somehow say it is not. |
Here's a random thought that might add some novel use out of Obers:
First, reduce the veterancy rate of all OKW units.
Second, slightly reduce Obersoldaten cost while slightly reducing fighting effectiveness.
Third, Obersoldaten gains a radius that boosts things like veterancy rate to all nearby units.
This makes Obers an supporting infantry squad to all surrounding units, and works on the opposite concept of USF officers: rather than gaining XP from nearby units, it allows nearby units to vet faster. You will always want at least one of them in a game because that means your other units will become veterans faster.
What this means is the Ober squad becomes less of another anti-infantry killing machine and more of a benefactor to the entire army. Strategy around the Ober then makes it one where you'll aways want such a unit around, but must consider its costs relative to what your army can get from it. Moreover, the enemy can deny this advantage by targeting the squad, which still has 4-man size and no anti-tank capabilities of its own.
In a typical game then, any player spotting an Ober squad will know that the opponent has spent the resources to improve the rest of his units. This might end up being a trivial issue if you can quickly destroy his better units and keep him on his toes- a few units with greater vet gain won't always be a powerful benefit if he just keeps losing units.
The rationale behind this idea is that Obers are meant to portray veteran troops, and this method of designing Obers sort of reflects that. They can perform combat roles, but it is neither their forte, and neither would you be using your investment efficiently.
Thats nice but we don't need a support unit at his point but infantry that can stand against the other factions elite infantry. |
Dunno why they should cost less / be more potent, they are non-doc and you can get them after unlocking a 80 fuel truck around 8 min (1st truck is fuel free).
They are always there if you can't get any other elite from doctrines. Making them more potent / cheaper and people will simply spam them again.
I'm not playing with them (not playing OKW), I agree they deserve a better spacing but I see so many players just A-moving them like they were still the terminator they use to be before that I think the main issue comes more from the player than the unit.
Not playing the okw completely invalidates any argument. even so it doenst take a math genius and just a quick trip to the coh 2 stats that baseline obers ae rather cost ineffective. |

lol, someone is challenging the dogma of krupp steel, and you get upset
in terms of P4 vs T-34, it's actually a bit more in the T-34s favor than I thought
Like I said I think the P4s are they are are fine. As far as CoH2 goes, I always felt the P4 should have the better gun, but the T-34 should have better armor. The P4 for some reason has both, and costs more. In a game of attrition that CoH usually turns in to, the "cheap" T-34 ends up dying off easily and making them becomes inefficient very quickly
The red army does not agree with you and said the p4 to be the better tank coming. I take this information right out of the red army handbook. |
They ARE good at killing infantry.
They were well over the top at it.
Blobs don't really exist any more unless its OKW blobs, pair of obers still murder mercilessly maxim from the front.
Not cost effectively however. standard grens are better then obers. |

Potent stuff if you indeed stack up the armour bulletins. But more importantly the okw p4 unlike its ost counterpart gains scatter decrease and becomes an absolute monster to infantry at vet 4. |
Brute force factions are always going to be more popular then glass cannons or swarm factions. one of the reasons why csm and sm factions where so popular in dow 2 .
other factions tend to be a less forgiving. take for example jackson vs the panther. i would rate the jackson as the better TD but one fuckup and its gone forever not so with panther.
And of course the germans look way cooler then the allies. |

Agreed, Soviets put more heavier armour, because
T-34 have more armor than Pz.IV
T-34-85 > Pz.IV Ausf.J
KV-1 > Panther
SU-85 > JgPz.IV
ISU > Ele
And about 80 HP buff:
SU-76 surely doesn't need that buff, while StuG III definitely need 560 HP
because PTRS are better against StuG than Schreks aganst SU-76.
Thats not what i mean. you see the i2 and isu152 far more then the elephant or kingtiger. and comparing mediums is largely irrelevant anyway. |

It is quite pointless just to compare flat penetration values of two units from different factions because average armor values those units got to face is different for those factions.
Then the advantage is with the su76 the soviets tend to put more heavier armour on the field then the ostheer |
