Current and proposal are two different things.
We all know that.
Your proposal is about changing what is current. What I said was you cannot propose so little that change so much and not expect questions about all the blank spaces you create.
Giving USF stock Priest, M10 and Jackson and Jumbo as stock units bloats the roster, and also makes doctrinal units they replace redundant. Why go Priest when you can go Calliope? Or more specifically, why go Calliope when you can always just go Priest? Why go Pershing when you already have Jumbo? Why go vanilla Sherman when you can have both of those options at once? Why go Easy Eight when you got Jumbo?
With your idea the only real commander you need to choose is Airborne, as you get all the viable vehicle options without needing to choose a specific commander. |
My prediction is that this commander will create serious balance issues. I think by now, that's EVERYONE's prediction ;p
And like others have said, what's likely to happen is Relic goes on marketing campaign featuring it in streams in blatantly positive manner, and after people preorder it it performs far worse than you were made to expect.
Happened before, so not wild speculation here. |
Are they now? That's lame. It used to punish players who didn't repair their weapons.
I do no remember explicitly since those times I'm more focused on not getting my tank killed, but I believe the health of the weapon itself gets reduced all the way to like 1hp, but since it never goes down to zero and destroyed until the crew itself is destroyed, it is technically invulnerable to destruction. Not the best choice of words to describe it, but there ya go.
Prior to that, you can target the weapon (a la Guards' and Cosncripts' PTRS versus HMG) and "destroy" the squad only be destroying the weapon and leaving the crew running away. In this fashion, you can ONLY destroy the weapon only you have destroyed the crew. If the crew is up against something like a King Tiger or a powerful artillery shell, then both have a chance of happening at the same time (re one guy left manning HMG at 1hp gets a bull's eye to the face by railway arty).
As for digging in, I'm not very sure that's a very useful approach; don't AT guns already benefit from the cover system? I also don't like the idea of all factions having this option, whatever it is the OP is (not) thinking of. |
Aren't AT guns in general pretty resistant to tank fire?
And aren't all crew weapons pretty much invulnerable to destruction as long as they are manned anyways? |
I don't think they should be removed per se, instead they could be rearranged into a "Deleted Units" subsection of this thread? |
This is topic about late stock, so leave commander out of argument. Pack is just nothing but a regular mortar now and M8 HMC work only at short range.
This topic inevitably touches on commander units because you specifically mention units you would find in commanders and proposing they become stock units. Of the six units you list for USF, only one of them is stock unit, the rest are all found in commanders. If anything, this is entirely about commander units.
You cannot make such a suggestion and then also demand that people cannot even talk about it by claiming it's not part of the discussion despite the clear fact that it is.
Bottom line: your idea demands a revamp of doctrinal units, so they are, intrinsically, part of the argument.
If you disagree, all you need to do is say "Only I am allowed to talk about commanders." |
The capping is nice but I honestly think if should have been something like a doctrinal unlock, or a toggle like Soviets' Secure Mode.
I mean sure you can use it as a rearguard fast capper, but literally everything in the game can kill it.
The vanguard doctrine for brits and some other doctrines have this ability first in the roster. Its called raid operation. Allows any of your vehicles to capture points at rapid speed.
Ostheer Encirclement Doctrine's Breakthrough as well. |
Of all the factions so far, USF and Soviet suffers terrible late stock unit. While they gain early advantage, the smile soon fade off as late game hits.
If the two years of this game indicates anything, it's that this is supposed to be how the game works.
My proposal for USF
Add an upgrade at major building, this upgrade is called "Refit War Machine" and requires major, captain and lieutenant to upgrade. The upgrade cost 200mp 60 fuel and is USF late tech.
Refit War Machine will allow USF to access to 3 new units: M36 Jackson, M7 Priest and Sherman Jumbo(or just M4A3 76mm if Relic cannot make new unit)
So another upgrade after you go all three officers just to unlock another three units? Wouldn't this do the exact opposite of what you want, Jackson comes even later? Jumbo's not going to happen, especially as non-doc, it would just replace regular M4. If there's a durability issue then M4 should just get armour buff via veterancy or munitions upgrade, not a discrete unit that makes other units redundant.
Priest on top of M8 HMC, pack howitzer, major airstrike and doctrinal abilities? What is this, Total War?

A cursory glance at the veterancy guide indicates that Ostheer/ Soviets' builders have the same veterancy bonuses except the vet1 unlocks- faster repair speed at vet2, and less damage taken when repairing at vet3.
I don't really like the idea of just copying the benefit of one faction onto the other factions, that's how you make the game bland. Certain doctrinal options like Hull Down and Repair Station can provide options, and at any rate those features are found in very few commanders.
USF's Rear Echelons have the double benefit of plus one guy at vet2 as well as faster repair speed (and USF vehicle crews). And according to veterancy and beginner guides, Royal Engineers are only as fast as upgraded Sturmpioniers if they go Anvil/ Heavy Engineer route; by themselves, vet2 only gives +30% bonus speed.
If Relic's going to read this thread and agree with OP, then I think the best, if not also the more obvious and easier solution is to simply buff the repair speed bones in vet2. You still need to vet up your pioniers, and you still need them around to repair, but they will repair faster if you keep them alive after risking them in a fight, and losing them would be a bigger blow. |
My OKW name suggestion was Advanced Disruption Doctrine and the ones up there sound meh. Yeah TBH the ones in the list sound really dumb. Even yours sound much better, and I'm rooting for the one I came up. |
