Well, the m-42 actually could be useful if it had a nice buff.

Frankly, it doesn't, its more efficient to just get T2 and ZiS.
By the time you can get M-42, you don't need it any more, much like conscript PTRS.
Getting t2 and a Zis3 is a great way to throw away the momentum you gained by going t1 in the first place.
The M42 light AT gun is fine. It does what it is supposed to do and that is dealing with light tanks. It allows you to maintain momentum and perform a T1 to T3 rush whilst providing a cheap counter to enemy light vehicle play.

M42 is not "near useless". It is 100% useless. It should not be buffed, because, if you will buff it you will get... another ZiS-3 gun, but doctrinal. So, what for we need it?
Relic should change M42 to PTRS's packs for conscripts, or to something else. M42 will be useless, no matter how serisous it will be buffed.

If only it had a better penetration, then it would be at least comparable to ZiS-3 against medium tanks. Its utility gets thrown out of the window after the first Panzer IV.

Make it 0cp, it's worse than T0 raketen, which is delayed by the simple fact you don't need AT that early.

The few times its been used against me it seems to snipe infantry a lot more than other AT gun but that might just be me. In theory they might be worth it if you need a quick response to a 222 or Luches if you are unprepared (though I wonder how many hits it takes now with the 222 health buff lol)

The M42 is half a ZIS in any offensve ways, but i like it anyways. It is a bad unit but it does its job as you expect it ^^. However, it freightens the opponent like a true ZIS and make him play strangely

plenty lot more anti tank,,, whit out barrage,,, And move doctrinal zis-3 to replace old 45mm

Would be an idea to put this gun into tier 1 and replace it within the commander with another item. Then you can stave off light vehicles with tier 1 with planning but are still vulnerable to early mediums till you get your own.

Would be fine with me.
The idea of a light AT gun that deals only with light vehicles is hard to make interesting because how is it going to scale? I would also suggest giving the gun a light AI role, as these guns were deadly when loaded with the correct round against infantry.

Now we are talking, those 2 commanders have nothing for late game. the bs was capable of making indirect fire if I recall correctly, for a healthy amount of ammo it could be the special asset of this unit compared with the pak.
