Thread: Ask the Strategist!22 Apr 2014, 16:41 PM Im fairly sure that after the mortar fires off one or two shots it will stop firing as it has lost its target. Think if you click attack on a unit with a tank, and their units then escapes into FoW, the tank will not follow. Cover still works against indirect fire... sort of. Its still directional, so will protect against hits on the other side of cover. However what is more devastating is the fact that units will bunch up in cover, and if the hit lands in or behind the cover, there is no cover, so its going to hurt.. the whole squad. So generally, indirect fire is a good counter to covered troops. In: Strategy Desk
Thread: How do mortar bulletins work22 Apr 2014, 16:34 PM The mortar bulletins work fine. I use the auto fire accuracy one which really ramps up the amount of hits it scores when left to its own devices near the front line. I have seen people using the barrage accuracy one, which might be good if you are a ninja with mortar micro. I however am lazy with it and like it to score free hits while I micro other things. I think the problems come if you stack mortar bulletins, this may cause strange behavior. I dont know about the arty bulletins. Pretty silly to use as your warning your enemy to plan from the beginning to kill a howie. In: COH2 Gameplay
Thread: Uses for Unloved units #3: The Dishka18 Apr 2014, 10:03 AM The best way to use this commander has to be making use of the free T2. So I'd say an aggressive T1 start, probably M3s. Then if you can gain good map control, if there are choke points. Then throw down Dshkas and tank traps. Quickly get T4. Cos the light AT gun isn't great vs tanks. Just have this doc available alongside other t1 useful docs like Guard motor , then you have options depending how the game goes. In: Red Army Strategies
Thread: Shreked PGrens... Balanced or no?18 Apr 2014, 09:55 AM Not sure if guards PTRS got some kind of buff at some point, but they really ain't that bad IMO. They can get a P4 down to half health quite quick, that's really not bad. Plus 2 best guard docs have mark target. I killed a tiger that was trying to retreat to repair with some the other day. And they are only an auxilllary/ stop gap AT unit. In: COH2 Balance
Thread: Howitzer Balance18 Apr 2014, 09:31 AM One thing to bear in mind is that calls ain't toooo cheap. So if you do want a howie, pressure enemy munis and also try to make them do things like waste of rifle nade and fausts. Calling a recon and a strike is a lot of muni, probably just as hard to get if not harder than the 600 MP cost. However this is easier said than done. Probably more applicable to 1v1s. Thread: COMRADES! Do not build T3 or T4. 18 Apr 2014, 09:26 AM I totally agree with SSHeinie. But it is totally a matter of opinion and personal play style. What I love about the soviets is there is actually quite a variety of ways to play them and lots are very effective, just depending on personal style. What works with one person often does not for another. I think this is really good Hanging on for CP can be tricky, MP can drain, or lack of 'impact' units can slow the cp count. Building T3, helps you gain cp from building itself plus impact units. And t3 works perfect as a half way point to calling an ISU, which is beastly. I wouldn't as much do T3 into is2. Thread: Howitzer Balance18 Apr 2014, 00:54 AM I think the key is to sit down and think hard about which docs are good to us howies against ( particularly as soviets), now identify on load screen if enemy has/is likely to use it. Now during game keep eyes peeled for que to build your howie. Only real major problem is the Eli doc having instant hard counter. In: COH2 Balance
Thread: Does anyone know how to play soviets in this new patch? 18 Apr 2014, 00:48 AM Because 2 kv8 is insane, u negate their slow movement by locking down both sides of map, then when u go to their base bye bye buildings. But yeah IS2 is also a nice safe option. The double kv8 would however allow u to go terror doc for an earlier propaganda arty and later IL2 bombs, although really hard to save munis for! Personally I'm loving maxim play to hold back strong German inf. But it requires v good combined arms. In: Red Army Strategies

Thread: Balance between AI and AT units.18 Apr 2014, 00:31 AM 34/85s are beast and far more versatile than su85. Ok if you correctly position su85 like you say, they don't need too much looking after. But 34/85s are a pleasure to micro IMO. They are not difficult to make them perform. Su85 is ok in one set location, but the moment they need to switch flanks for example, you've got a slow awkward nightmare. In: Red Army Strategies
