Volley Fire's a trash ability but I don't think the Rear Echelon Squad is a trash unit. It's just a unit that relies on weapon upgrades to function as anything more than a slightly better Combat Engineer.
Once you give them weapon upgrades they become really good units for their cost: double bazooka REs are great anti-tank troops and .30 cal REs are solid combat troops if they sit in green cover and do their thing. Being able to grab the sweeper and keep their weapon slots is also pretty neat.
Relative to the rest of the USF faction I think Rear Echelons are in about the right place. If USF needs to be stronger versus other factions I'd more inclined to shift fuel from Lieutenant/Captain to Major to accelerate their first officer power spike and lessen the pain of double teching.
It never crossed my mind to press the Volley Fire ability, even if i pick Tactical Support of Infantry Company to have access to LMGs. I always say to myself "i will have at least 1 RE squad with LMG so that i can support my Riflemen" but i never do it. I won't disagree, they are amazing with double bazookas, especially if you have TWO squads in the field, but their effectiveness against infantry is still meh. In order to earn veterancy, they need to stick together with Riflemen.

If RE are utter trash, then so are pios.
At least Pios manage to kill 1-2 models from enemy squads in point blank, unlike RE who can't hit an elephant standing still in front of them |
Why does it matter what they say? Relic and the balance teams make the decisions. They're just as capable of ignoring the people who see balancing as a competition as the rest of us are.
I'm not talking about the Relic and balance teams, i'm talking about the player base in general. And to clarify this, we are not trying to create a Rambo Squad, we are trying to make the engineers of USF a little bit more combat effective, NOT on the same level as Stumps for example, but improve them slightly. People here have the impression that we want them to perform similar to Paratroopers or Rangers.
For me this is awesome option.

Here's an idea about Rear Echelons (since Axis mains AGAIN reject every idea). Remove Volley Fire (that annoys you so much) and give them the ability "Deploy Marksman" that CoH1's Infantry Sections had.
You can also just give them M3 Grease guns.
You can also think of an idea to make them a slightly better fighting squad. |

I would kill for their non-doc Riegelmine-clone.
Even the M8A1 has same potential as Roket-Artillery, killing with each shot. I wish it gets a nerf to leIG18 niveau.
Little Off-topic: US has only one problem, Jackson is so potential that they cannot get a non-doc battle-tank and M10 is useless. Better change M10 with Jackson, buff the M10 a little bit and give US a heavy sherman-class.
Or maybe turn Pershing into an actual heavy tank, because right now, Pershing is not a heavy tank |
In 4vs4 w 4x OKW, my single RE got attacked by 8x SturmPioneers (2/player)
who all focused my RE as one. Edit: At close range. There were no RE survivors.
I think this proves SP are too strong and need a nerf.

So you're claiming that the Allied fanbois give logical suggestions and Axis fanbois are unreasonable and ridiculous. Even though most of the threads crying/whining about balance are started by Allied fanbois.

When I say reasonable proposal, I don't mean "give M4s and AR-15s to Riflemen" and put depleted uranium armor on Jacksons. I mean something to balance the game for ALL factions. Yeah, I accept the fact that some Allies mains propose stupid ideas (like someone proposed no T0 mgs for Wehrmacht which is just stupid),but that doesn't diminish the stupidity of some Axis mains. Except what you suggest is the opposite of how the game is designed. Obersoldaten are designed to be OKW´s counter to infantry. They are a specialist unit with the sole role of killing infantry. Just like AT guns are designed to counter tanks. You dont build a tank to counter an AT gun either. For the same reason you don´t build Rangers to counter Obers.
So, i guess that even vet 2-3 Rifles can't beat vet 0 Obers, because by the time they hit the field, Riflemen have earned some veterancy |
Yes this isn't an insult or anything. I don't do this to random players who are looking to improve their game through tips and better micro. I do this to players who see the game through 1 dimentional glasses because there is zero possiblity that they are the absolute perfect player and everything they complain about is unbalanced.
I have tried to disagree to without acting like an ass for years. But again i'm doing this vs multiple people who will simply not consider any other point of view because their point of view is through a single gamemode and a single faction. There is no #ADAPT for these players, or at least it looks that way. It's complain here to try and change things they actually give them trouble because they want to upgrade their rifles with 2x BARs, drag box around all 3-4 + free squads, and click around the map. I've helped many players in the replay review section previously and I've offered it to a few of these players as well, but they don't want help, they just want nerfs vs the factions they play against.

I shouldn't have intervened here, it's not my duty to do that, but i find it ridiculous that you accuse each other for being biased over his prefered faction.
All i have to say is that since i joined here, all i see is people who main Axis to propose nerf ideas for Allies, but when Allies propose an idea (a logical idea so that you won't confuse it), you all turn it down because "Allies are op!!11!1!1!". I saw it in the thread about the Jackson, i saw it in the thread about your beloved King Tiger, i saw it in the thread about the "USF free squads", i see it in EVERY thread every day. Yeah...except they dont work. OKW gets Obers to counter Riflemen, guess why? Because after vet 2 they shred any US infantry for fun unless you manage to flank them with CQC units like Rangers or Thompson Paras.
AA HT doesn´t work in late game and isn´t even good in early game because it doesn´t have smoke and OKW always has access to Raks.
You counter Obers with vehicles NOT with infantry.
Nothing works 100% and no plan survives contact with the enemy. The same way that Wehrmacht's MG spam doesn't always work, the same way this won't work 100% |
