Because as a german facing your own MG42 it's brutal. Now imagine if that was always the case, if the maxim was viable? It'd be a crazy world. Maxim should be dropped to a 4 man crew like EVERY other MG and make it viable. Enough said. And how do you propose we account for the death loop with only 4 men? Make the whole thing 180mp? The axis variants you mentioned are known to be under performing (I mean so is the maxim). Different performance is fine, but the net should be comparable. The mg42 compared to the maxim is like conscripts compared to Obers, minus any utility. Conscripts and grens perform relatively similar in the early stages of the game-both costing the same, but grens behind 80mp and 10 fuel. The maxim is behind literally double that and provides nothing of value unless massed. That is not good balance. But even then, while underwhelming the ostwind and Ass grens can accomplish their goals. Ostwind will shoot up infantry and planes and ass grens are a solid open, they just fall off in scaling. There is no situation that the maxim performs to cost. In: COH2 Balance
Thread: Revamping the revamped Firestorm doctrine 1 Mar 2019, 11:41 AM AT satchels are OK on the Soviet because they don't have fucking panzer Shreks. You have to be actually stupid to not see the balance problem in being able to snare a tank and kill it in 1 shot.not run of the mill stupid either, like 8 generations of inbreeding stupid. The satchels primary goal is to prevent pushing and to give AT Infantry the punch against harder targets that they can't otherwise pen. The Shrek, like piats and zooks fire instantly and deliver enough damage to be a threat of snarling instantly all by themselves so such a tool is not necessary. The AT satchel is OK on Soviet only. That there is the problem imo with penals, such a strong AI advantage that can transfer into a strong defensive AT option IF needed is insanely powerful, especially when it doesn't gut their AI like it does for panzergrens (yes it lowers it but it doesn't remove it, which is valid given the power of Shreks but it's a bad transition for a 6 man squad) Picking AT or AI specializations imo is the way to go. 6 guards rifles upgrading into svts or Ptrs would be reasonable and maintain obvious counterplay that doesn't set itself up to be countered. ANY. there is maybe a 1% chance that if I see a maxim laying on the ground that I would grab it. Anything less than a 6 man crew and its absolutely unusable and even with a 6 man crew it barely performs anyways before it gets killed frontally. If you see any other MG, even an MG34 you grab it because you know it will do its job. But you pay the same for a 42 and a maxim. In: COH2 Balance

The Sweeper upgrade's offset by being stowable and giving a repair boost. The Panzershreck package is expensive and cripples your expensive Sturmpio. You need two to be effective, but two Panzershreck Sturmpios is a ridiculous investment and double Panzershrecks on a single Sturmpio would be 140 MU, meaning it isn't accessible early on when you actually need it. The AT upgrade just needs something more. Sticky satchels, maybe? Or swap the Panzerschreck for two Panzerbusche AT rifles (they're in the game) and give them Button at Vet 2? Move the IR HT from tech into spec ops in place of flares Put AT squad into med truck, comes with AT rifles and a snare and upgrades to Shreks for a reasonable price. Loses snare when upgraded to shrek Drop snare from volks. Drop Shrek from sturms. In: COH2 Balance
