Thread: A test map31 Dec 2020, 07:18 AM Since there are many experienced map designers here would any be interested to create a map suited to easy test with spawn points for unit of specific characteristics? The entire point is that they didn't need to become "significantly more viable". I have been saying the entire time that they were OVERbuffed, not they didn't need any buffs PG where not being build even as 5 unit in standard grenade opening, although they have received buff before. That was not going to change with 6 sec less build time, 1.5 sec less reinforcement time, a vet 2 adjustment and different vet 1 ability that requires a vehicle. The massive 340 manpower investment in unit with no snare at the time where light vehicle stage start simply does not pay off. In: COH2 Balance

Against volks fights have been more even. I suggest you test in vet 3 Penal vs vet 3 Lmg grenadier in cover to covet and in different ranges in cheat mode. Are you under the impression they got no other buffs when they were moved...? The buff they got are: "Population from 9 to 8 Infantry Doctrine Combined Arms now a veterancy 1 passive. Med-kits veterancy ability removed Combined Arms ability now triggers when near allied vehicles. Veterancy 2 now adds +16.7% weapon accuracy. Veterancy 3 accuracy bonus from +40% to +20%; total accuracy value increase at veterancy 3 remains as the same as in live. Reinforce time from 8.5 to 7. Build time from 34 to 28." Now if you think that this is enough to make PGs as 5 unit build significantly more viable I doubt it. In: COH2 Balance
Thread: Penals, the Elephant in the room31 Dec 2020, 05:54 AM Jump back to quoted post31 Dec 2020, 02:51 AMMr. Someguy I'll preface by saying I like PTRS Penals because sending PTRS-armed Infantry at late-war Panzers is downright suicidal and thus you'd want an expendable troop to do this job. I'm split between whether I like Penals as a Panzerfusilier type unit or a Panzergrenadier type unit (which it hasn't been equivalent to for a very long time), but ultimately I think I favor the Panzerfusilier approach, at least in the following concept. This idea is unrefined, it's been in my head for awhile but I was never 100% sure what I wanted from it, or rather I know what I want but some of these things are incompatible or overlapping so I try to rearrange them into something more coherent. Anyway, consider it spitballing. Penals are now 5 men armed with Conscript Mosin or maybe 6 men with Weapon Crew Mosin, can be equipped with Flamethrower Package or PTRS package. May or may not have SVT Upgrade if Assault Troops start with PPSh (not stackable with other upgrades). New unit Assault Troops, 6 men armed with PPSh slightly below Conscript PPSh. They have Oorah and a weak Panzerfusilier-style F1 Grenade. At T4/Reserve Upgrade their PPSh are replaced with Shock Troop version. If Penals do not have SVT, this unit may start with SVT and upgrade to PPSh. Unsure what Weapon Crate will do for them, early Shock Troop PPSh (if they have SVT) maybe 3-4 Panzerfusilier G43 style SVT's (if they do not have SVT)? I'm really liking the sound of those other G-43 style SVT's alongside their PPSh's now that I've come up with it. In this concept, Conscripts are the utility unit envisioned by the developers, building cover, holding the line, and reinforcing other units. Penals are expendable attackers, they get assigned the jobs that you don't often come home from (attacking Panzers with PTRS, or holding a flamethrower (historically flamethrower troops had an exceptionally high mortality rate) ). Assault Troops grants them an offensive Submachine Gun squad which strongly fits the theme of the Red Army, as well as a real Grenade, and something for Conscripts to actually support (and if they come with SVT's they can serve as an optional mainline maybe?). That would make much more sense and would be a far better design. In: Lobby

You just can not have mainline inf that is reliable and relevant across whole game without weapon upgrade. We've strolled this road for years with conscripts, now we're going for a 2nd lap with penals and their mid and late game viability. Lack of upgrade to keep infantry scaling through early mid game and extreme over reliance on T-70 to jump back into the game once everyone else starts rolling out infantry weapon upgrades is a direct reason why T1 feels bad on the long run as even if SU-76 might be a good option right now, as long as there is no infantry scaling to fend of the pressure, it will always be T-70 and in turn, T1 lack of AT reliability and AI scaling. I honestly do feel like it'll take a while longer, but a solution akin to mobilise reserves will be employed for them. PTRS buff does a lot to their AT part, but -2 reinforce cost and vet swap isn't going to cut it at all in AI department, they will keep on bleeding to vehicles and not doing enough to infantry due to abundance of cover cutting their DPS drastically. That is simply an unfounded theory. Vet 3 Penal will beat vet 3 LMG grenadiers in cover to fights at many ranges and Vet 5 Vg both of which have weapon upgrades. There is no real relevance between having a weapon upgrade or not. Performance is related to stats and weapons available to squad regardless of how one come to have these weapons available to them.(concentrate DPS over spread DPS) In: COH2 Balance

In the video I saw it look as if 2 shot exploded on the ground right under the PzIV causing rear shot hits while being fire from the front.
