Soviet Defensive Doctrine M-42

I got a suggestion for the defensive doctrine M-42. How about replacing it with the 85mm AA gun M1939 (52-K)? That would make it so that the defensive doctrine is slightly more appealing. They were used as AA guns and AT guns ( in emergencies ) with great success throughout the war. This AA gun was the basis for the D-5T gun on the T34/85 and SU/85. What you think? :)

Relic (almost certainly) won't replace a unit in an existing doctrine like that, unfortunately. At best they'll buff the M42 into usefulness.

It's more like the tanks it would decently counter such as the Panzer I and III don't exist and the Panzer II comes out late enough to just have a ZiS-3 instead since that scales later into the game.

Relic really do not like to make new models. ~ 70% of the models of houses, bridges, barrels and other stuff copied from coh1. Since release, they added only KV-2 turret (without WFA).
It's bit funny to see suggestions to add new units.

MAYBE, just an idea, allow it to garrison inside buildings?

Then it would be extremely bad, but inside a building.

AT gun in a building? Can you even push it through the door?

Well, both armies somehow did during WW2 as AT guns in basements wasn't uncommon sight.

M-42 is the Ostruppen of AT guns.

Relic should release a commander on April 1 with a "captured weapons" theme where for only 400 MP you can call in an M-42 crewed by Ostruppen.

Reduce the cost to 180, replace tracking with sprint.

Like it would be useful. Who needs the M-42 if the only it kills is the M3 and T-70. Plus, a panzerfaust and MG42 does the job better.

Oh, sorry, I was just making a joke about how hopelessly useless the M-42 is, and suggested that relic make a joke commander that combines two of the most useless units in the game.

Relic will never implement your idea, but for the record, I think it's a good one. : ( Ah well. At least it's an extra commander we all got for free.

Ostruppen are actually pretty decent. They start to fall off in usefulness once vet 2 hits the field, but before that they're pretty solid.

Well they do beat RE troops but never seen anyone use them beat Rifles or even conscripts. You got any replay that shows Osttruppen's usefulness? I'm interested to see how you use them.

I love Ostruppen, and if you've found a way to use them, that'd be wonderful if you could upload a replay. I love the concept but I just can imagine how they could be worth it when only 40 MP more gets you grenadiers who are better at everything besides re-crewing and surviving mortars or whatever. I've seen them lose to unupgraded combat engineers in equal cover.

Do you use them against the US mixed with lots of MGs? I can imagine they'd be better there, since Grens lose to rifles and rely on MGs anyway.
