Firing cone to 5 would certainly help. Any idea why it was so much lower?

Think it does not have animation for the gun, and if I remember correctly in real life the gun did not have horizontal traverse either.

AFAIK 15 degrees for both sides.

It has -5/5. But it does have very high hull traverse speed (30/37,5) to compensate, which is easily the highest of all casemate TDs. In comparison, the StuG has 28/33,6, the SU-85 has 22/26,4 and the Jagdpanzer has 20/24.

Firing cone is separate from horizontal traverse. It's the arc the gun can fire in before needing to traverse. Even most turreted tanks have their guns set to 5.

Well, here's a random thing on the SU-76 that might help it at least engage when its trying to run away. A bug-fix if you will.

-Firing Cone from 2 to 5

All other casemate TDs have a firing cone of 5, in addition to better horizontal traverse radius. If the firing cone gets standardized to the other vehicles, the SU-76 would be slightly better at engaging units that are slightly off center. From what I've seen, if the vehicle is not dead center with the SU-76, it won't fire- likely due to said firing cone.

This looks like a solid change one can start from here and see how it goes.

your two statements contradict each other... on one end youre concluding that the upgrade makes the unit lame and spammable and on the other youre claiming it may not be enough because the soviets still have the SU-85/zis/7 man on T4 combo...

There are 2 different issues.

One is balance and that is where spamming comes into place the other is diversity in builds.

In order to achieve balance one has to make cost efficient units and SU-76 a cost efficient unit.

In order to achieve diversity in builds a unit must bring something new to the table. The SU-76 does not simply becuase SU-85 is superior vs all vehicles and because a good enough barrage is available to zis.

this is exactly why the upgrade is necessary... that ways the soviets dont rely on a one trick pony for the lategame and can function efficiently either with multirole SU-76s or the SU-85/zis + T-34 trick...

Not really, if both unit can do the exact same thing and are both case mate one will be superior to other and always be picked over the other and there will no diveristy.

Having designed to excel SU-85 against super heavies and SU-76 vs mediums is abetter design.

The SU76 would be a lot more usable if:
- The T70 wasn't so OP.
- Soviet early game (<10 minutes) wasn't so terrible that they would need the OP T70 to get back in the game.
- T3 was available earlier so that the SU76 can be used to engage enemy lights earlier on. The timing is way off for the SU76 to be viable against light armor. It's like a Puma that you can only get after enemy light tanks have been on the field for 5 minutes.

On map where you dont get flanked i would just spam su-76.
It can penetrate a king tiger from max range just fine.

Off the top of your head what is the long range penetration of the Su76 and the armor of the KT?

Lol probably the su76 penned 1 out of 20 shots. If it was 2 or 3 out 20 it would be op af.

Don't wanna be the "fun at parties" guy but don't know if ppl trolling so I have to give some numbers:

KT armor: 375
SU76M long range pene: 160

That gives a 43% chance to pen long range >> 1/20=5%

But seriously who builds su76 to counter heavies lol. Even on maps where you "don't get flanked".
