Thread: Sturmtiger breaks the game26 Jul 2015, 03:05 AM
The unit is terribly designed, in the same stupid category as B4 of "high risk high reward wipe everything" nonsense. Should never have been put in the game in the first place. But with that said, it's not necessarily OP currently. I haven't seen it enough to decide whether it is or not since the last patch. At least it's doctrinal now :/ In: COH2 Gameplay |
Thread: UKF - Know your units - .55 CAL Sniper25 Jul 2015, 06:34 AM
@Katitof I don't think anybody except Relic can tell you what the unit will be like when it ships. I didn't find it particularly good (fun but not super powerful) when I was using it but who knows what it's like now. In: Lobby |
Thread: ML-20 and barraging the enemy base need a nerf. 25 Jul 2015, 06:01 AM
The ML20 is too good right now. But it's walking a fine line between OP and useless. If it wasn't able to cheese OKW bases to death like it can now it will be sent back into the "never build again" pile. Relic needs to think long and hard about howitzers and their place in the game. Thread: Abilities that need tweaking24 Jul 2015, 01:01 AM
Stug Target Weak Point / stun thing please don't nerf this. I'm terrible at this game and this is one of the better crutches. gg Lol. Stug + doctrine with panzer tactician smoke is the worst. Between the stun and the smoke the damn things are insanely frustrating to kill. In: COH2 Balance |
Thread: Abilities that need tweaking24 Jul 2015, 00:59 AM
Mark target changed to pen is something I also agree with. I should also add the JPIV Camo also needs tweaking as we've discussed in the past. It only camoes until first shot or detection, then it cannot re-camo until it is out of combat. In: COH2 Balance |
Thread: Abilities that need tweaking24 Jul 2015, 00:34 AM
This isn't going to be a majorly in depth analysis, but the following two abilities are on my shit list at the moment: - Katyusha creeping barrage. This was supposed to be a nerf from precision strike, but I would argue that it's actually as good/better. I'm often soviets so I "enjoy" using this ability, but honestly it's too good in its current form, IMO. - Stug Target Weak Point / stun thing. This ability causes me nothing but rage. I see Stugs all the time since the buff, and they seem to get Vet 1 quite fast on account of either Elite Troops, or because they're just genuinely pretty cheap and deal good damage (thus vet quickly). Stug is my most feared unit on the battlefield because of this ability and most axis players have clued into how amazing it is currently. Agree / disagree? Any other abilities to add? Thread: Broken balance USF vs OST23 Jul 2015, 23:40 PM
Only played 2v2 and 3v3 so far on the new patch but my USF teammates have been in struggle city. I'm going to tell them to play Sov alongside me so we can win a game tonight. Also noticing that it feels like 80% of Axis players are Ostheer these days. Yikes. In: COH2 Balance |
Thread: Dev Diary pt1: UKF - From History to Gameplay 23 Jul 2015, 01:39 AM
And furthermore, "Operational Unthinkable" never had any real momentum behind it. I don't think I would say we "came close" to nuking the USSR, not until decades later when the cold war was in full swing and you had a nuclear standoff. In: Lobby |

My central complaint here is not that axis is OP (it varies from patch to patch and game mode to game mode), it's more like that all of the design decisions they took trend towards Axis getting to play with all of the cool toys in the toybox. Ostheer in particular is unambiguously the most well rounded and well designed faction in the game with no obvious factional weaknesses. Great core inf, great support units, great tanks. Late game artillery/indirect is not as good as Soviet (at least, in current patches) but still respectable. Their core army works well even without access to doctrines. When I say the design decisions leading towards this, I'm referring to things like the OH getting stock Panthers and late-war model Panzer IVs, but then giving the Soviets the regular T34. Or how there's all this late war kit on both sides, but then the Russian infantry is designed as though they're still under-trained and disposable cannon fodder for the most part. Or how they chose to theme the Western Front expansion around the Battle of the Bulge, preventing old favorites like the Pershing from making a reappearance. It's like, Ostheer is Die Wehrmacht's Greatest Hits Album while USF is just one EP from the middle of the career of that army that doesn't represent how their sound changed over time. And Sov is a the Youtube Mix based off this one song you listened to one time that has a bunch of related stuff but in no particular order. I hope this strange analogy makes sense ![]() These decisions aren't some conspiracy, it's a series of coincidences, but I find it mildly irritating. USF would have been the most ideal place to put your crazy air supremacy doctrines, but instead they, too, went to Ostheer. And they get doctrines with cheap, disposable infantry, and fast, mobile striking units like the Puma. At this point it feels like they're stealing all of the other factions themes and ideas too! ![]() In: COH2 Gameplay |

I know you're certifiably retarded, Pardon?
Ostheer represents the 1943-1944 Ostheer army. The Ostwind Flakpanzer did not see service until the 4th quarter of 1944 (Production began in September '44). It has the STG 44 on Panzergrenadiers (tested in 1943, but not deployed in scale and not under the designation STG44/MP44 until 1944). Numerous other units were only present in service at the tail end of '43 like the Pak43, Brumbar, and Elefant. It's absolutely not "early war". The only notable late war kit it's really lacking is the Tiger II. A lot of the OKW units were also present in the same time frame, like the Walking Stukka (1940), LEIG (1932!!!), Kubelwagen (1940), Panzer II 'Luchs' variant (1943), Raketenwerfer 43 (1943), JPIV (1943), Puma (late 43/early 44; also present in OH). Only a couple of units here and there are "ultra late war Germany" rather than simply being "the units that Ostheer didn't get around to using".
The LW in 43-44 is operational, but not dominant, and the Red Air Force is also a force to be reckoned with. Is the CAS supposed to represent air dominance in 1941? When basically everything else is 42-44? I mean the design of OH and Sov are certainly incoherent. Like the Soviets are fielding 1943-44 tanks but their core infantry are low quality "conscripts" (weren't almost all of the soldiers on both sides conscripted?) that have molotov cocktails as their primary grenades. ![]() To make things further convenient, the exact battle that the USF/OKW expansion is themed around happens to be one where the US air superiority was grounded for an extensive period of time by bad weather. And so they both get a whopping one airstrike. ![]() In: COH2 Gameplay |
