Had a question but I figured it out. |
I just fired up the map with thick mud and honestly, it seems pretty cool. Infantry slogs through it like deep snow but moves much faster. It also didn't slow down an M3 by that much. The map itself looks like it would lend for some crazy games. |
The input lag fix is, simply put, fantastic. Microing an M3 scout car and T70 against the computer just to test it out and I'm thrilled with the results. |
Something I was really hoping for was a ghost change: they moved the theater of war loadouts to the bottom of the list so now your top choice starts with MP loadouts. Very nice. |
In my opinion the MG42 isn't a bad unit. I think the reason why people are calling for buffs on MG42 is due to an overall lackluster German T1. Snipers easily get one shot and it is difficult for Grenadiers to do much vs conscripts until they get LMG42. As it is Germans are extremely ammo starved with needing to get teller mines to counter Soviet Industry cheese early on. Rather than buff MG42, I would rather see other German T1 units improved.
Although they are somewhat map dependent the German mortar can be very effective. |
+1 tuvok.
I was about to say, its sounds like you are relying on Guards motor (guards and 120mm).
There are several commanders that work nicely with T3.
My favorites are:
Shock Motor; this will give you shocks to own his inf, you can rush a T70 out instead of getting guards. It also gives you ZiS camo, to give a damage buff, and then calling in an IS2 at the point in the game you begin to struggle, will seal the deal most of the time.
I also like Mechanised Support, which gives you guards, ZiS camo, mark target and then an ISU152.
Meta +1
IS2 is the missing piece here IMO. |
Irregulars are indeed much tougher than Partisans. They spawn with an lmg42 almost every time but also occasionally spawn with an inferior DP-28 instead.
They also have an RG-33 grenade which may be the same one as the shocks and also get AT grenades after you upgrade for them at your HQ. Personally, I find them most effective in an M3-scout car for some nasty dps.
Assault Partisans spawn with a couple of PPSH most of the time but can also get an lmg42 or a couple SVT-40's instead. They are able to upgrade for molotvs.
AT Partisans can spawn with 1 Panzershreck or (!) 3 PTRS rifles. They are able to upgrade AT nades.
While Partisans really benefit a Tier zero Conscript strategy, getting all 3 upgrades at base, they can also build mines and barbed wire. The 10% faster build time bulletin for mines and wire benefits them.
Partisans are really nice to grab abandoned team weapons with since their mp cost is so low you won't mind getting rid of the unit. A funny side effect of this is, being added later in the game, Partisans only have a couple annoying yelling voiceovers so when you grab an Ostheer weapon they instantly become Germans.
Irregulars I've used much more like an elite infantry squad to get a good dps increase over Grens without splurging on Shocks. That commander also gives you PPSH and one of my favorite abilities: Conscript repair.

Mines and AT nades are pretty much the only option, but both can do the work. Going tier 1 as Soviet without any other AT option is pretty risky.
I think the trade-off is you can use your infantry advantage to contest the opponent's fuel and/or cut-off enough that they struggle to get to their tech before you have blitzed them. This is a Shock commander, literally and conceptually, after all.

Edit and Reply are WAY too close to each other on this forum |
Just wanted to second Jafooli in saying this unit seems good as support for a skipped tier1/rushed tier 2 build. You will probably upgrade one of your PG's with Shrecks in this case anyway so if you want to throw them in the HT later you can.
Also I was trying it out for a bit and the HT they come in is VERY fast and maneuverable, like the 222 scout car. |
