The terrain is in a cloud that is streamed to the player. I heard you can cache certain areas if your internet can't keep up but don't know the details on that. Looking forward to doing a low level fly by of my house lol. |
Hay do you guys still play?
Yeah we do but mostly other games these days. A few guys got back in to COH2 recently though. Get the discord info from whiteflash if you have him on steam. |
The Lobby system is pretty awful in my experience. It takes forever to find a game sometimes especially in larger modes. Probably less of an issue in 2v2 1v1 im assuming.
It just depends what time of day you play. I have no problem getting 3v3 and 4v4 lobbies in the afternoon and early evening. After 9pm EST or so its usually dead. |
Hope they have higher fidelity infantry models in SD2. The first game they obviously put a lot of effort in the map and vehicles, but the infantry had Half Life 1 texture quality lol. |
3. Lots. Lol M1 Garand, M1 Carbine, M1903 Springfield, M1898 Krag-Jorgensen, M1911A1, M7A1 Grenade launcher for the Garand with practice grenades ( it’s a hoot! Lol) M16A1 (from a parts kit, semi auto only), M16A4, M4 carbine, M91/30 Mosin-Nagant, 1895 Nagant revolver, polish built AK-47(it’s an AKM, but that’s not as common of a name for a stamped sheet metal AK), 1897 Winchester shotgun, Japanese Type 99 Arisaka, Kar98k, Mauser C96 pistol..... I also have several newer firearms and some older stuff that’s not WWII or military related like some Smith and Wesson revolvers and a few guns for concealed carry.

Steel Division still has an active multiplayer community. Smaller than this, but its certainly not dead. Custom game lobbies fill up within 5 minutes (usually less). Not sure about the state of ranked automatch because I haven't tried in a while, but from what I have heard there is a very active tight knit community of competitive players on Vulcan's discord and they scrim all the time. |
Been anticipating this for many months and it met expectations, 9/10. Haven't played a game for this many consecutive hours since Fallout 4 release. Anyone east coast with a mic want to play add me on steam [tc] Basilone. |
+ 1000 to Ciez's (and others) Popcap point.
I don't want more 10-20 minute games. If i want that i should play a Football game or something else.
And besides that, it does not make sense from a "real life" perspective. Because i have little territory i cant build/field more units to defend my self?
Its just not accurate because in COH1 you can't field enough units to get popcapped that early on in the game. Pop capping happens when you've got your KT and 3-4 zombie grens, several paks, a nebelwerfer, 2 volks, 2 mgs, a sniper, pioneers, and a puma or two...it was a late game mechanic. Popcap ending games early is fake news. |
That are hard words man^^.
It's fine that you prefer coh1, tho atm we have good competitive cups for coh2 and also i think the balance is very well done atm; when i think back...
The problem wasn't just balance related tbh, its the overall game design. Terrible commander system, lackluster tech counterplay, and too many get out of jail free cards for players that aren't good flankers. All that = too many COH2 games feel more like Brits vs Wehr rather than US vs WM/PE.

Pop cap should not be tied to territory control. Being cutoff is still brutal in COH2 and you still see major pushes/fights over cutoff points on maps like Kharkov, Kholodny, Langres, Crossroads, Crossing, etc. Comebacks are fun and exciting, reducing the comeback potential makes the game worse in my opinion.
That's not how it actually worked in practice though. In COH1 you could field more units before popcap became an issue, the mechanic really didn't come in to play until the late-late game and it often helped players make comebacks. Medium sized armies were not very prone to being capped out. Popcap hurts the person that gets ahead, fields too many units, and plays stupid.
