Thread: Moving Accuracy Penalty for Garrisoned Squads24 Apr 2019, 09:30 AM Inagine you are a soldier in 1943: A conscript fires and hits you in the chest with a Mosin Nagant Do you just stand there and keep firing back untul you take eight more rounds? No. No you do not. Imagine you are a soldier in 1943. You and your Panzergrenadier buddy both climb into a tiny shed and you both fire your panzershrecks out of the windows. Are you perfectly fine? No, you just set your arse on fire and dropped a shed roof on your head. The 'but muh realizm' argument is bad and you should feel bad for using it. There's already a 50% accuracy penalty. Literally half as many hits. That is plenty. These light vehicles have to move so much just to wiggle around terrain and kite fausts that any more renders them nearly pointless. In: COH2 Balance

Something guards do infinitely better with no side tech costs. If conscripts are ever going to be worth buying instead of them, their kit needs to have some sort of purpose, and giving them a mix of sprinting abilities and stationary bonuses ain't gonna help, imo. A commander specifically designed to promote synergy play between light vehicles and mechanized infantry, with a light vehicle designed to be rebuilt repeatedly if lost to bring commander style abilities and help make the most of combined arms. If anything doesn't fit it's the 76mm. But we don't have AT halftracks so whatcha gonna do. In: COH2 Balance

Also, conscripts have in their very description that they are most effective from cover, so cover bonus makes most sense for them. It only functions as a nornal LMG in cover, but it also is an LMG. It has most damage at max range and wants you to be stationary. Conscripts have butt damage at max range and all their toolkit encourages you to be mobile. Oorah, grenade range, their damage curve and no weapon upgrade. It may be in the description but it doesn't fit the current design at all. In: COH2 Balance
Thread: Sniper Cover Concept24 Apr 2019, 07:42 AM Its a neat concept but I don't see any way it'll work out. The already crippling ost/ukf sniper arrangement suddenly becomes totally unplayable. Snipes walk at the same speed as tommies. You can't chase without dropping like flies. You can't stay in cover and use your bonus without 240mp snipers constantly bleeding your models. You don't have a decent LV counter. USF and Soviets also don't win long range firefights against grens. Grens are already incentivised to use long range and green cover because MG42 while rifles and conscripts/penals need to close the gap (via moving) to be at a range where they win firefights. This isn't a blob counter. All it will do is encourage stationary, LMG troops only play when fighting Ost or Sov and further beat the already bad brits. In: COH2 Balance

It works for Tommies because they have a choice of LMGs. Conscripts don't. They have oorah and a close range molotov. Guards exist if you want to use cover and be stationary already. Until they are able to turn utility into combat utility by being better at something - AT, cqc, moving accuracy - the side grade costs will never make one or two cons worth the sane as one or two guards. Thread: Soviet General Faction Changes - New cmdr mod 5.023 Apr 2019, 15:29 PM Back on the topic of conscripts, can we please actually TRY giving them weapon upgrades, less accuracy bonuses and a 2nd weapon slot? They don't need to be good upgrades, but letting them pick from a choice of three small, cheap packs lets them be versatile (the utility everyone seems to think is all they should be good for) without making them dominate. A couple of SVT, a couple of PPSH or a pair of PTRS. The doctrinal variants are strictly superior and come with more firepower so you can leave them more or less as is. Letting them synergise with your commander and build with a variety of small upgrade options could go a long way to making the huge sidegrade costs more bearable. In: COH2 Balance

Penal and VG where set to be OP compared to Grenadiers and ever since then the changes that had to be implemented involved buffing almost every unit in the game, leaving Grenadier and Conscripts UP. And now there talks about buffing conscripts and Grenadiers so that the circle can begin once more. Until someone provides I better process I see little alternative than deciding a power level for a unit and balancing all other unit vs that benchmark. So make the benchmark riflemen and adjust accordingly. You can talk about grenadiers all day but clinging to the past doesn't help. Right now, adjusting cons and grenadiers is a much easier fix than adjusting literally everything else And of the two, cons need a whole lot more attention, which is the point the patch has tried to address. By nerfing Penal and Guards one can also nerf VG and thus not have to buff Ostheer. Patch after patch the majority of infatry have received buff because Penals and VG are OP (compared to the benchmark grenadiers). And that would in turn mean having to nerf rifles, sections, paratroopers, most assault infantry, obers... If your problem is that infantry play makes using grenadiers hard then, sorry buddy, but everything in that infantry matchup is pretty well matched up right now. Changing literally eveything BUT grenadiers purely because you want them to be a benchmark is a dumb approach that would require retooling most of the game to reduce the cost, firepower and utility of every other mainline and elite infantry. That's not how it works. Adjusting them to be better at one role and less generally good at anything isn't a nerf, just an adjustment. Conscripts still need a buff. Guards with no AT rifles would drop less guns but probably need their mosin damage adjusting. A CQC penal squad would probably need oorah back and a price drop, as well as a more expensive but impactful AT package. It's not as easy as nerfing two squads because those two squads are curtently the reason soviets are able to compete at all Or we could keep trying to find gimmicks for cons and call it 'utility', which is a fancy way of saying none-combat-duties. 7 man sandbag building is something at least. In: COH2 Balance
