True but that means there's still the other players to cover one (or both) of the other two vps. The thing is, you even saying this in the first place sort of supports my point, as "it can only cover one lane" is almost akin to saying "it's super powerful, don't bother trying to fight it". You do make a good point that it's slow to react, but really other teammates just doing their thing pretty much mitigates that.
They are pretty powerful, that's true, but they are also dedicated at units and the most expensive ones in the game. Still, they are far from being indestructable (I have the feeling the Elefant in early stages of CoH2 was pretty much more powerful than it is now after the introduction of Brits). If you have the control of the other two VPs you can usually start flanking attacks. Ofc it is very map dependent, there are maps on which these units are extremely strong, but then there are maps where they are completely worthless. |
On paper sure but have fun with a bunch of engine damaged 130 fuel t34/85s sitting right in the enemy lines if you try to dive. There's still other players' tanks too.
And even if you lose the JT/ele (unlikely), if you kill at least 3 t34s you've made a very positive trade.
But most maps -except that one abomination of a map- have 3 VPs, and JT or Elefant can only cover one lane/VP. With mobile T34s you can easily harrass the other two. I think there is nothing else as effective as holding flanks. |
Gets rekt by jt and ele tho.
Uhmm no? T34 swarm is probably the counter versus JT/Ele. Still got your mortars to easily destroy Flak HQ and Penal blobs. |
current meta:
1. Forward Retreat Points
2. Arty - still favouring allies
3. JT, ELE, Sturm
4. emplcements
You forgot to mention smth you literally see every game, Penals -> 120mm (sometimes Dshka) -> T34-85 -> Katy. Each unit itself is not op, but the combination of those is probably the strongest in the game... |
^ maybe maybe...
but as for now, katyusha is the weakest rocket arty - yes it is cheaper / marginally cheaper (except for land mattress which is still stronger)... unless you disagree with that
so i think we should start with nerfing all other rocket arties with katyusha's power level the standard.
I disagree, the Pwerfer is weaker, because it comes later (and you actually need to tech to T4). Also, the Stuka is sometimes obliterating everything and sometimes it literally does nothing. Stuka and Mattress seem to have a different role (area denial and siege for mattress, deleting crew weapons for Stukas), compared to the anti-everything Callis, Pwerfer and Katys. Just press left mouse button. |
Ok, so for all the people feeling the need to insult and stuff: This thread is not meant to say that Katyushas need nerfs or that they are crazy op or some stuff like that, even though there seems some confusion. The point is that people say Katyushas are the mobile artillery piece that all the other ones should be centered around. I disagree with that because I think several factors make it pretty powerful, thus encouraging the artillery spam teamgame meta, which is pretty cancerous tbh. These factors include the high wipe potential on short-range (even though it's risky), the still ok-ish effectiveness and long range and most of all the easy availabilty of that thing (no teching detour, no special commander, etc.). Imo, the Pwerfer is the one arty equipment that the rest should be balanced around, since it usually does not win games on its own. It's a bit harder to get and needs some more skill to use, and does not have the same deadly effect as others of its kind. |

The new Maxim is worthless garbage, and I'm saying this having mostly played Axis since the last patch. You can literally just run your volks up to one and throw an incendiary grenade in its face. It takes a long burst and a half to actually suppress you, and even more to pin you. Almost every Soviet player nowadays just spams penals, and I can't blame them because it's the only strategy that works anymore.
That said, I actually like the new Maxim. I like the wider arc and the new vet 1 ability. All it needs is a suppression buff.
I agree, once I was flanked by Grens, I saw it and turned it around and they walked into the "trap". Turned out, they could just walk into it, riflenade it and after like 15 secs were still not fully pinned which allowed a second squad to come up from behind and kill it. That was awesome. And I also like the change, however it will be hard to balance the Maxim and the Dshka against each other when you buff the one (which is needed) and nerf the second (which is also needed). |
It's just so boring to see Penals in every game, but you cannot blame the Soviet players. Maxims are too weak and Cons are still cons. So, logically you have to resort to Penals, which are still pretty strong having replaced Guards. I would like to see Penals being toned down a bit (especially the dmg against retreating units) and Maxims + Cons buffed, so that you have some versatility. |

It's overshadowed by the Dushka.
The maxim is now more dependant on conscripts to negate flanking manouvres and reinforcements, which can be difficult to attempt at first but is not impossible.
However, when you get it to vet2 and activate the suppressive fire ability, you've got yourself some excellent targets for the infantry or artillery. Even a nonvetted MG42 is slightly worse than that.
It's not overshadowed, one of the two is overperforming like crazy (basically doing what the old Maxim did but even better), and the other one is literally worthless. Probably the only MG that does not get stolen because it's just a waste. Definetly an overnerf, does not provide any suppression at all. |
I don't play much USF, but it's always pretty hard to play against Airbourne rangers (in terms of infantry engagements), that's for sure. However, the rocket strafe is just pathetic, usually you can just do nothing and you are fine. While I am happy that a stupid loiter is not op af, the same should apply to the dumb JU loiter... |
