There are huge advantages to be able to drive a higher frame rate especially with a higher hz rate monitor. The key is being able to match a stable FPS with a locked hertz rate on your monitor. Graphics are unimportant, having a higher FPS is king. Work out your average FPS, lock it using a program such as rivatuner and enjoy the advantages you get as a result. Obviously, FPS games will get the greatest advantage but having a stable FPS on even a RTS is a huge advantage. Your best bet is too google battle nonsense, watch his youtube videos. Man is smarter than all of us and has some amazing videos that will benefit almost all of you. Thanks for the tip about battle nonsense. I watched a couple of his videos. One of his confirmed something that I thought I was seeing, which is that VSYNC seemed to make things more sluggish. I'd turned it off on all my games and just use frame limiters whenever possible. The new Battlefields feel more like Counterstrike than Battlefield. BFBC2 was also pretty good. I would have bought a BFBC3 had they made it. Battle nonsense is spot on in his criticism of BF4. I do think Blackdream's and Cyanara's comments were helpful in regards to COH. I just went through a hardware update and it didn't change COH2's very much. In: Hardware and Tech

When I had a 27", it sometimes seemed too big because my monitor sits only 75 cm away from me. I did try a 24" Acer Nitro with a 144HZ VA panel. I hated it and boxed it back up after a couple hours. After getting used to the laser-sharp text of my Dell, it's hard to go to something else. One of my friends has the same Asus and really likes it. It was him that suggested I try something faster. In the beginning, for me it was the using hotkeys. And what was for you? I'm 2+ decades removed from being a high-ranked player in any game or mode but would add a few things to what other's have said. 1) Pick your engagements. You should be able to tell almost immediately if you're going to win a battle. Don't stay in one that you're going to lose unless you're keeping you opponent tied up to accomplish something else. 2) Don't try to fight in more places than your micro will allow. Trying to fight in more places than you can manage will just lead to squad wipes, and squad wipes cost games. 3) Always know your retreat path. My random 4v4 rank is stuck in purgatory. I see lots of "clever" flanks that lead to rage quits, because someone thought it would be a good idea to go down the extreme outside of a map, attack from behine, then lose their squads on retreat because they are retreating through the entirety of the opposing army. There are some maps that when you go just slightly too far, you retreat path will be sideways in front of the other team for a long ways so retreating units usually get wiped. In: COH2 Gameplay

Neither there was a need for that many in europe, nor in pacific. This figure was probably written in the reports just to scare soviet army that was much stronger than allied forces in europe by the end of war. I'd bet that the commonly quoted 49k is pretty accurate. Not only were they widespread in the US forces, we gave or sold them to our allies by the thousands. I watched once documentary on one of the Canadian's worst single-day defeats. They lost something like 400 Shermans when they tried attacking across a large stretch of open ground into a bunch of 88's. It didn't matter. The Canadians changed tactics and overran the Germans a few days later with the other 300 Shermans. Ullumu's numbers look correct. As for the Sherman question, remember that the production was ramping up, so it wouldn't be surprising if tens of thousand's of Sherman's hadn't made it across the Atlantic at the end of the war. There was probably something like 15k Shermans lost in Europe. Also, some of the Shermans went to the Pacific theater. My framerates currently start out around 100 if I don't have a framerate limiter on, but usually drift down to 40-50 by the end of a match. I have a Dell Ultrasharp U2518D which has a really nice picture and have had great luck with Dell monitors over the decades. I'm a little hesitant to try something else. Dell doesn't have much in the way of fast IPS panels so I'd have to look at an Asus, Acer or LG. I bought a new video card recently but haven't noticed much of a framerate difference between my old 1060 and my new 2060 so I'm guessing that I'm CPU-limited, which is a little annoying given that I also just got a Ryzen 7 3800x. I occasionally play BF4. The monitor seems fine if I'm trying to snipe but fighting close to people never goes well, and I'm not sure how much is the monitor and how much is just me being old. Do you use a 24" or 27"? I've used both but sometimes think the 24 is better. (The U2518 is technically a 25", but is a lot closer to a 24" than a 27") In: Hardware and Tech

They are intended to support and they do that job perfectly. No, Sturms are expensive and a lot of pop cap so you normally have just one. That one then has to repair and sweep, plus it is the only doctrinal flamethrower and non-doc shrek unit. If you upgrade it with a shrek, it loses a lot of AI for something that isn't a good AT deterrent. Unless you build your trucks in your base, your one support unit is really vulnerable to indirect while repairing. This would be okay. If the Sturm wasn't the starting unit then some buffs to it wouldn't upset balance too much. I still would rather have a Sturm that was 220mp and 6 pop cap, and was still better than any of the other starting engineers. The biggest reason for that is that when I play 4v4's, it sucks losing a Sturm to indirect while repairing, and then having to buy a 300mp Sturm late game to repair trucks. In: COH2 Balance

Cooldown removed. Assault Package (Feuersturm) The flamethrower upgrade for Sturmpioneers is a very good upgrade, but it leaves OKW painfully vulnerable to enemy mines because they can’t easily get a second engineer squad for minesweeping due to the high squad cost. Making the minesweeper upgrade available alongside the flamethrower upgrade should make this doctrinal choice more viable. Buff 4Flamethrower upgrade for Sturmpioneers no longer mutually exclusive with minesweeper (can now upgrade both) ve with minesweeper (can now upgrade both) IMO, this is a terrible balance proposal. It's a straight up 4x buff to what is already the strongest starting unit. The unit keeps getting buffs because of its high cost that it has reached comic proportions. Many people on this forum keep justifying the high cost of USF rifles because of their "potential", yet a lot of those same people think the above is a good idea. I understand not wanting to get a second Sturmpio when playing Feuerstorm, but more buffs are the last thing this unit needs. I'm guessing the buff to Rifles was needed because Sturmpios would roll over them at the start, but the solution to this might have been better to give a nerf to Sturmpios and adjust price accordingly. Leaving Stumpios alone and buffing rifles changed a lot of other balances that I hadn't seen people complain about. I'd propose matching the stats to the same as UKF sappers, having the sweeper and shrek upgrade stock, and keeping the sweeper and flamethrower upgrade mutually exclusive. Also, lower the cost and pop cap to match the new performance. (Please don't take this as an insult, in general, I like the job that the balance team has been doing and am glad they are doing it. It's a much better balanced game now than it was a few years ago. I just think this part of the proposal would be extremely problematic.) Added "quote" box by ShadowLinkX37 for clarity.
