Looking at it as an outsider, I see (almost) exclusively balance changes to a game whose balance has never been its primary issue. It just seems like after all the time and hype for this patch, there needed to be something a little more. It'll freshen things up for a few months, no doubt, but the game's core issues remain untouched, and people will be back to complaining once the meta settles down.
It's also hilarious how people (the vast majority of whom are overwhelmingly mediocre at the game) are suddenly experts able to analyze the balance changes before they've even played them. But that ignorance has traditionally been one of the CoH community's greatest strengths. By which I mean, above all else, it's the one thing this community is truly good at.
The truth. Nobody is going to admit it though. |

Close game, lots of stupid one shots from the mortar and priest. Can somebody tell me how to use USF tanks properly ? I keep failing to make any good use of them.
1. I used the phosphorus barrage multiple times but it kept shooting normal rounds instead
2. At some point it completely stopped shooting and I decided to suicide it (when it had 15 kills I think)
3. Apart from those bugs it seems a little too strong one shotting Alastors 4men squads

I watch him because he has a very chilled analytical style but I don't find him particularly entertaining to be honest. I don't see how he's less professional than Imperial Dane. Danes opinions on the game are questionable to say the least and Fanatic is way more objective if you ask me. You are right about his lacking CoH2 knowledge though. |

That's the way that matters dear boy
Well but there must be a reason why the player numbers are so low right ? Just take a look at romes playernumbers and compare them. |
I watched plenty of vCoH 2.601 games a few months ago. I picked them from the most wubbed replays on GR and they included players like Razor, Seb, Freestyler, GosuStarcraft (aka HuK), Kot, Aimstrong etc. And to be fully honest the meta back then was just as bad as what we have in CoH2 atm if not worse. Almost every single game goes like this (maybe 9 out of 10):
-high skilled early game by both players with nice rifle flanking great mg play->highly entertaining and nice to watch and waaaay better than what we have atm
-ami goes infantry in every single game
-wehr goes either t1 t2 t3 or t1 t3 and ends up spamming pumas but even the very best players with top notch micro have awful vehicle control and suicide them like crazy against Rangers, Sticky Riflemen, M10s or AT guns.
-american build is heavily infantry based (eg Rifles+multiple Rangers+Supply Yard Upgrades+Inf Upgrades+Howitzer)
-players stick to their build no matter what happens->howitzer gets destroyed after one barrage by firestorm ? Build another one ! First Puma dies after one minute ? (this happens in a surprisingly large percentage of the games) Build another one !
-some units are built in most games but barely have an influence (Nebelwerfer get like 3-4 kills per game on average, other than that all they do is denying ground and forcing american at guns who seem to miss pumas 90 % of the time to move)

Given the communities current understanding this change could:
- Address the call in Meta.
- Add a new dimension to the game, you must not just micro manage your armies but craft your doctrines.
- Fix the outstanding war spoils issues.
- Provide Relic the opportunity to release little bits of DLC content into the game.
- Prevent unit abuse by requiring repair cycles or down town which will encourage other units to be used instead.
- Tie in well with that Metamap thing I've seen floating around.
The only downside I see to this could be:
- Players can't use there same units over and over again without maintenance.
- The small population that plays in tournaments gets mad because of the statement above.
- Balancing, but this is always a issue.
Fuck we are all doomed. Better stop playing CoH2 and post more often on the forums.
You seemed like a reasonable and cool guy when I saw you on relics stream but this statement is plain ridiculous. "The small population that plays in tournaments"...what about the people who watch tournaments ? Hell this site has been created mainly to support competitive play. Why do you and your clanmates keep teasing people who want this game to be competitive ?
You're talking about a second dimension for the game besides the "battlefield", however you need to keep in mind that spending money on the game would allow players to completely bypass this layer of the game. So pls add "-completely destroys any of the leftover competitive spirit this game has" as a disadvantage. |
Some serious clashes against Inverse in this thread. Inverse has proven that he knows what he's talking about(Can't say the same about Van Vort) time and time again, AND he's a veteran CoH1 player, so why Van Vort and his crew are ganging up on Inverse I have no clue why. Inverse stated himself that he's making theories BASED on the actual leaks and what we know from those leaks; he then gets attacked by the single-player elitist group for voicing his opinion.
It's almost hilariously comical because those single player elitists call 1v1 competitive players the Taliban of video games, but their behavoiur is exactly the same, except their allegiance is to the CoH SP/3v3 and 4v4 matches.
I agree with Inverse that the system from the leaks seem to be heavily influenced or copied and pasted from CoH Online, and could very well be the same system. I'm waiting on a solid explanation on Relic's part before I congratulate them or give them hell in a written letter(I've already written a few letters to Relic).
Here's hoping it isn't a copy-paste job from CoH online; that game was poison for competitive players, was unbalanced and wasn't very fun; luckily it got shut down shortly after release.
Couldn't agree more with your 2nd paragraph. Angry bear members should think about this for a moment.

Honest and Polite Question will get a Honest and Polite Response:
I am not interested in tournaments, I don't play in them, I don't watch them, I very rarely play 1v1 and I don't care about them. It was not a condition of me, or so far as I am aware anyone else, joining staff that I do any of those things and I don't intend to. Most the content I generate is directed at the lower skill level and 3v3 and 4v4 crowd that is otherwise un-catered for.
That in itself merely makes me indifferent.
But each time a 1v1 player gets upset?
I smile inside
Because they spent most of my early time on this site condescending to me and the others like me who are the vast majority of the player base, actually pay the bills for Relic and keep the game alive because we aren't good enough or worthy of their attention.
So maybe if they did not treat everyone else like pudding I would have some sympathy
You Know what's funny ? It's been an upcoming trend lately to complain about "elitist" and "arrogant" 1v1 players who assault casual players for their game mode preferences. This would be perfectly understandable if those people actually existed but they don't. |
