Well, I think the first problem is that they really created an envy problem among the masses.
Now I have seen someone's calculations on the community forums: there is a .01% chance or less of a commander drop in an average length game apparently. And then you go into games and see someone with double new commanders. It's aggravating. I play a lot, but I've only gotten one OKW commander.
The bigger problem is the commanders as drops themselves. Relic has a history of releasing OP commanders that affect gameplay terribly. There's a consensus building that the Rifle commander with the EZ8s and vet infantry is quite OP, maybe even more perniciously OP than the Tiger Ace was because this commander has a number of extremely good abilities that affect the game along its whole length (you could sometimes win against an Elite Troops user before he could get an Ace, and the vetting was definitely not the huge issue).
We know it takes a while for Relic to listen to the masses crying OP even in obvious cases like SovInd and Elite Troops, but since a limited number of people are playing with this commander, it's just going to take much longer for them to modify it.
Meanwhile those of us who do play competitively and already are seeing this commander over and over are getting frustrated.
Other than that, it's a system that could have been much better. A point system to get commanders with random drops of bulletins and skins would have been ideal. If skins and bulletins were the only drops, no one would be complaining.
Shepard - did I miss something or are these rotation commanders going to be for sale? The current ones already were. But the new ones aren't last time I checked. If they are for sale, and people are still complaining, well, god help them.

I loved the vCOH blob! Unfortunately we can't have snipers behind our airborne blob as 'Murica.
I wish combined arms worked better than this in 4v4, but they don't. Just blob airborne, watch those Obers melt like butter! Follow up with Jackson spam.
I threw away a lot of Jacksons, but hey, it's 4v4, I'm popcapped or nearly popcapped anyway. I almost met my match in a Sturmtiger though, the nemesis of all great blobbers.

After this patch tonight it has been really bad. It's definitely a server issue because when I logged in the "connecting" message appeared and it took a while for the automatch to load up.
Had 3-4 games of horrible freezes, and one full-on disconnect (the others I had to abandon the games as freezing for 20 secs in an RTS is basically 2-3 units gone). But my last one it just cleared up, so something got unborked, I would imagine...
But since WFA it has been intermittent, I get it infrequently but still enough to be annoying. Tonight has just been insane.

Nevix: You know what kills parablobs good? You remember that upgrade on the halftrack? I think it does some kind of crazy flame attack. I think I saw people using these before a few months ago, but I could be wrong.
Seriously, I've pulled out the flamen a few times against US blobs where zooks weren't a threat. It's really, really good.

I still don't understand why the MG42 can't have the suppression values it had in vCOH. It's insane, go back and play it, and no one ever complained about that. MG spam was not viable, it wasn't really viable in November either, because there were plenty of counters available, far more than in vCOH. Both factions have loads of them now too. The problem is support weapons can cap. That is the only reason MG spam was viable. So if we want MG suppression back, we need to disallow capping by support weapons. I know that's kind of crazy, but think about how much less viable Maxim spam, the most complained about Soviet strat, would be?
270*4 manpower spread out even all in the arc of fire (as can happen on Minsk) should still beat the MG. You are rewarded for your spacing and micro. That's fair. Blobs packed in a small area running straight up to the MG and killing it purely because of their DPS should not be viable - you're rewarding bad micro. I'm not sure how they should fix this, but honestly what they did in VCOH was better - the stuff being directly fired at got pinned really fast whereas units in the sides of the arc would not be instantly suppressed, but suppression would still kick in eventually. I just feel like the AOE is not big enough.
My big issue is MG retreats vs US - even if you pack up and leave before you take a lot of damage, the higher rifle DPS kills the MG far too often on retreat, whereas it can escape a conscript blob just fine. So that's one of those balance issues I despair at them being able to fix - buff retreat bonuses too much and it's unfair to Soviet, but right now it's one of those things making the US/Wehr matchup very difficult.

When I want to be nice and hand someone a game on this map as Axis, I always make sure to send everything to the 1 VP side instead of camping the side closest to the north bases with two VPs. That was a really brilliant early decision that allowed our community celebs to build momentum toward having no chance in hell of winning the game! While at the same time putting up enough of a fight that these noobs thought their skill was actually behind the win. Way to go guys!
Also - dat unit preservation Ami  Those vet 5 Obers...So nice of you to give them the satisfaction of taking that out with an ISU shot to a 1-man squad! You really had them going!

Well, stuff like the OKW and Ostheer officer provide nice bonuses.
Concentrating forces is a legitimate tactic, combined with focus fire, 3-4 squads of anything can annihilate 1-2 enemy units before you have time to retreat. That's my biggest issue, which isn't exactly the same as blobbing. |
