Advanced Emplacements Regiment Redesign

The Advanced Emplacements commander is the main reason why emplacements can't be reworked to be useful: emplacements have to be terrible so this commander remains manageable.

Any rework to emplacements then naturally has to come with a rework to this commander.

This rework focuses on diversing defensive options instead of the original design of making Sim Cities stronger and eradicating their counters.

Version 1.0

Version 1.1
  • 0 CP: Defensive Operations
    • Infantry Sections can build and repair emplacements.
    • Unchanged.

  • 1 CP: Entrenchment Tactics
    • Royal Engineers can build UKF base bunkers for 150 MP 60 MU.
    • Royal Engineers can build Tank Traps.
    • Infantry Sections can build light AT mines.
    • Replaces Improved Fortifications.

  • 4 CP: Recon Overflight
    • Standard recon plane. Synergises with Forward Artillery Base and the 17 pounder.
    • Replaces Advanced Assembly.

  • 4 CP: Forward Artillery Base
    • The Forward Assembly's artillery flare ability gains +60 range.
    • Replaces Counter Barrage.

  • 10 CP: Precision Barrage
    • A direct clone of the USF 155mm Barrage.
    • Unchanged.

The commander was made importent, hardly a reason keeping emplacements out of meta since its utilities are not effective outside of the one gimmick going for it - repair sappers.

Imo emplacement should simply be redesign around and re-balanced with their performance tied to Hammer/anvil path (which could be unlocked in stages).

Counter battery should be move to the arty commander regardless.

Improved Fortifications is just a flat buff to emplacements. If you balance emplacements to be viable in other commanders, Improved Fortifications will make them a problem in this one. If you balance Improved Fortifications emplacements, normal emplacements will be weak.

Advanced Assembly with its instantly respawning automatrons that can repair an emplacement through a quadruple LeiG barrage complete with Feuersturm incendiary shells is by far and away the main problem with this commander.

Counter Barrage fires howitzer shells at the counters to emplacements.

my other idea would be to turn it into "homeguard division" with focus on improvised defense and some teeth.

defensive operations unchanged

3cp: irish guard or welsh guard using sniper skin. it would be nice to see new special infantry for brits other than commando. Could be either long range specialists or assault oriented infantry, that brits don't typically have access to.

0cp sherman v: basically usf sherman for brits, give it 720 hp and have no ammo switch and be a bit slower. Could give option between more mobile but bit less survivable cromwell.

2 cp supply drop operation like in tactical support regiment
10cp either precision barrage unchanged, or cordinated barrage aka ripoff railway for 12 cp

That'd be pretty cool. However, given any changes to this commander would be outside of a revamp, I've tried to keep them as easily implemented as possible.

yeah true. we should think in advance if we possibly get another commander revamp in future, even thought we shouldn't hold our breath.

For a full revamp you'd be able to get something more ambitious like your suggestion.

I'm thinking more on the scale of the edits to Luftwaffe and Fortifications that happened when the MG34 became nondoc, or the edits to Airborne and Recon after the tech restructure.

The British Army is currently the only one without Tank Traps so I think that if there is ever such a rework that bundling it with something like the MG Bunkers would be a good move.

Tank traps is one of the most irrelevant abilities in game.
I have never seen them used outside of sandbag replacement for USF.
You want to nerf a doctrine hard, you remove 1 ability from it by giving it that.

That's why I suggested they be bundled similiar to the rest of them, well apart from the USF ones, if they are introduced.

Cries in Soviet tank defensive tactics.

To the OP: I actually really like the ideas. Could be fun and not simply cancer like the current shell of a commander.

Right... Well I don't play them so yeah...

They could be bundled with their own MG nest tho as I suggested for them as well.

Soviet nests might need to be a little more expensive given they've got armour-penetrating Dshks in them.

Yeah but I mean still, they can be bundled up with the tank traps so the slot is not as useless as Katikof said.
