They are not pure combat units like PzGrens.

They are infiltration units. You are not supposed to use them as a core army but 1, maybe 2 squads as a back up, scouting, infiltration combined with powerful stg upgrade.

And for that purpose, they are perfect (Pathfinders crying in a corner).

Stormtroopers' don't need buffs (aside from changing their vet 1 LIKE 99% OF EF INFANTRY [slight exaggeration]) so much as the cheese of other infiltration units need nerfs. I'd also say they could use their StG upgrade's cost to be reduced a bit too, with those two, should be just perfect then.

Your experiments showing to Storms losing against PGs consistently when both are vet 3 sounds like a bug - the two squads' StGs are entirely alike and the sum of their veterancy bonuses should be as well, but Storms have a 0.05 smaller target size. A fight between them should be an RNGfest.

It's funny because I was just running tests on a mod and I happened to notice my Storms, without StGs, were able to hold off a riflemen squad that advanced on them.

I remember noting that I've never seen that happens with a Gren squad versus a rifle.

The mod I was testing did not affect riflemen or stormtroopers in any way. (It did affect StGs though, but that wasn't the scenario.)

So like it was said, it's a total RNG fest. The variables involved are greater than the units themselves.

Well, Storms have 0.16 better target size than Grens, so that should make a pretty distinct difference when fighting them.

at the risk of starting one of those "realism vs balance" things... elite infantry are infantry units based on what were elite formations during the war. they should cost more manpower but they should be expected to do more things good or specific things well. they're not intended to be blobbed... instead, you use them in certain situations to turn decisive engagements in your favor.

true elite infantry:
obers (not sure historically what this is based on, but all of OKW is wacky, so garden it)
falls
rangers
commandos
stormtroopers (should be... but don't perform that way)
shocks

crack infantry (likely to be blobbed but should be better than mainline infantry):
panzer grens
guards
panzer fusiliers
paratroopers

i consider penals more of a specialist AI unit; jaegers and pathfinders have a specific role (recce/sniper unit).

i know this is just like, my opinion, man. but it's a good opinion. :luvDerp:

If only :) There're two points "classified as elite" and "having elite stats" Sadly the Stormtroopers are elite in name only.

Elites should be better than mainline inf I meant. We can stop there I think :)


I just wanted to point out that people uses labels like "Elite" as an excuse to buff request and those labels are often put there by themselves.

"Elite", "Tank hunter", "that's medium - no that's heavy".

Please, try address unit's place in The Balance of Things, not some imaginary status.

The game says that grens are elite. Grens are also mainline infantry. Should grens be better than grens? :D

Judging by their camo, their names in the game's inner workings and their voice lines, they're absolutely Waffen SS with the serial numbers filed off.

Relic probably realized part of the way through that that explicitly allowing you to play the fellows that are considered nearly synonymous with the word "evil Nazis" would be potential bad press.

Ober mp cost is overvalued due to their LMG being undervalued by design. Reminder this was done when OKW still had munition penalties and they made the LMG34 an upgrade rather than passively getting it.

On:
Veterancy should make emphasis on their /infiltration/disrupting behind enemy lines abilities.

This will only hurt if you want storms with stgs unless the upgrade cost will be also reduced.
