M-42 vs other light AT.

The M42 has range advantage.

You can fire at light vehicles from behind a screen of AT nade wielding conscripts with the M42 without exposing the unit to enemy fire. A guard squad has to be directly on the front-line to fight, vulnerable to repressive- or focus fire from the enemy. This may force an early retreat of your AT unit, this collapsing your front line. The M42 does not have this limitation because it has range.

On the other hand it has also cons. Can be flanked, can be circled to death, can't retreat etc.

Everything has pros and cons.

Give it a timed vet ability that increases its pen at the cost of a litte bit of fire-rate so it won't automatically become useless when mediums hit the field, call it a day and go from there later.

USF AT gun has this ability and it doesn't have any drawback to it.

Plus, what good is a vet ability, if the thing can't get vet, because it can't penetrate anything bigger then halftruck.

What's more, I completly understand your point of view from 1v1 but if we had M42 as a non doc light at in T1 (while any KV put in defensive/urban) you would get even more starts for T1->T3 while those doctrines would be more desirable because of late game call in.

Or just replace it with guards.

No bad. It may work. :thumb:
M-42 light AT gun is fine. It does what it is supposed to do.

Like penal or T-34-76 yeah:thumbsup:
replace the M42 to BS-3
or increase the damage, penetration, add ability: case-shot

To cool. Even ZiS-2 is too cool for soviets. I am grateful that at least all cons have they rifles.

Defensive doctrine because it is awesome

Rule №1 from 2015: if soviet doc don't have elite call infantry, this probably bad doc.
Rule №2 from 2015: if soviet doc don't have call tanks, this probably bad doc.
Rule №3 from 2015: if soviet doc don't have elite call infantry and tanks, this absolutely obvious bad doc.
So i lost somthing? Soviet have solid stock infantry and medium/heavy tanks in 2016?
Be replaced by at partisans!

They best soviet AT unit. Yeah, civil with stolen panzersherks. CoH2 so CoH2:romeoMug:

Just a lil historical tip for you:

One of the soviet armies got encircled, didn't surrounded and went partisan tactics instead, training civilians and doing coordinated operations on their own, so yeah, that is kind of military doctrine too.

I know at. Don't think what we have partizans in 44. But suddenly, they existed. Anyway, AT partymens like strongest sov AT unit is nonsense. One of many, however.

I find it rather amusing, that people who constantly have repeated that history does not apply to coh2 not even slightly would make historic arguments themselves.

On topic I find performing M-42 cost effectively it fires fast, it turns fast and it is very cheap. Comparing to Guards and HMG is not very helpful since it is cheaper than those units and has more range.

The commanders that is is available though are situational...

Yeah, but the core concept is fine, just the numbers are no good. 30% more pen (that's what it was, right?) for 30 muni obviously isn't cutting it for 57mm, so the M-42 would obviously need a lot more. Could also make the M-42's only have a cooldown and no cost, because even more so than the 57mm it's fucking useless without the ability at most stages of the game.

Either way, I think the M-42's initial value may be arguable, but its scaling is so trash that Oscar's a close friend of it.

M42 should have copy-paste stats and price from OKW raketenwerfer (T0 AT gun)

How the hell do shreks and raks have more pen than an ATgun? The 34/76?

I thought it already uses AP rounds, I mean, it's AT gun, right? :foreveralone:

It needs buffs if it's doctrinal.
But it would be superfine as a non doc T1/T0 unit.

Can't tell if sarcasm or legitimate misreading because you're not even sure what the M-42 AT gun is :foreveralone:

Yeah, I'd have explained it as precision shooting, or something.

It could do with a buff for sure. I'm not sure what should be buffed though.

I have been playing quite a bit of tier 1 since the vet changes (no it is still not worthwhile getting penals) and I find the AT partisans a million times more useful than the M42
