I think the idea being it still retains it's camo whilst being off-putting/confusing the look at, like the way Sherman Fireflies had their barrels painted:

My favourite is the Panzer IV, looks nice. The patterns remind me of the Charcarodons Space Marines.

The camo on the barrel of that firefly was meant to disguise the longer barrel since german crews knew the danger poised by the 17pdr. Or you already meant that by putting "offputting/confusing" derp on my part but this contest will hopefully bring more awesome camo designs.
