That is indeed weird. See my picture above, i even tried it with a mate instead of AI, for... reasons.

Iv kept around a couple old builds and I'm currently comparing all of the M3's files to figure out what caused it. The new M3 file has several additional lines of code I'm trying to track down since I'm assuming the added lines are whats causing this.

Diagnosis: Coding errors.
Spaces were there shouldn't be, misspellings, and outright swapping of coding order. It's such a mess I can't even really tell if this is what's causing the issue (might even explain the inconsistency in reproducing the bug) but regardless ahhhhhhh

Tried to reproduce it, could not. The M3 as a whole felt a lot more durable than normal though, sat infront of an invincible Grenadier squad for nearly a minute and still had half health. Did the armour get increased, or gren penetration decreased? Maybe just wacky RNG?

The Squad inside the M3 was being constantly damaged, the M3 wasn't impervious the Squad just choosing to shoot at the squad over the vehicle.
Some great unit targetting there

Uhm so if the models are inside the m3, and your squads target the models, the m3 doesn't take any damage while technically taking damage?
And how come the m3 eventually dropped the squad off and still didn't take any damage by small arms fire until a raketten werfer hit it?

Rifles aren't really good light armor counter, low RoF and 20% chance to penetrate isn't what you want to fight vehicles with.
Maybe it's 'cause the Axis players aren't a bunch of forum crybabies, and they keep their cool and fight the uphill battle, unlike some of their "allied" counterparts.

Too bad that's all they've got, except for MG 42, or Panzerfaust if the M3 is poorly handled.

Before hotfix m3 took considerable damage from small arms fire, makes no sense why now it suddenly doesn't when a squad is in it.

Something clearly changed experienced this with the ostheer mechanized assault group my Brit AT snipers were just 1 shotting everything inside the halftrack and doing no damage to the vehicle(no 50% chance to miss). I believe this is new and not intended
