Yeah but the way they work, they showed them off as a combat unit, even having an ability to effectively force a retreat on the enemy squad of their choosing. They should be something you don't want to lead an assault with, but they showed them off as the opposite.

Your going to find Sturmpioneers fighting off your rifle squads, so i guess they had to make the USF builder unit something to compete with. Its attack is used for defense, i cant tell if they can use the ability on the move, but it is supposed to keep squads away as getting close increases the chance of getting pinned.

I don't think the rear echelon have flamethrowers which compromises their combat role (vs. soviet engineers, pioneers and sturmpioneers).

They are a 4 man squad are with carbines and this 'suppressive fire ability'. I don't think they even have grenades. IIRC, from the demonstration video they were circa 280 MP (not cheap).

For rear echelon troops, I think it would have been neater if they gained defensive buffs from their own territory tied to that territory's value, maybe even improve resource production in that territory. Then you'd be more inclined to actually keep them as rear echelon troops.

The rear echelon:

Fighting Position: Build a small defensive structure. Can be upgraded with a Heavy Machine Gun. Holds one squad of infantry and provides cover. Rear Echelon Troops will use rifle grenades when garrisoned inside.

SturmPios = awesome combat unit, lots of utility *as they level up*

REMFs = poor offensive unit, more utility than you can shake a stick at *off the bat*

The rifle grenade ability from foxholes is awesome.

OKW can't build bunkers it seems...hopefully their units are good enough to defend trucks. Also without flamers and mortars how are they supposed to eliminate these fortifications and units in buildings....heavy dependance on grenades and the all important infantry support gun i'm guessing.

I assume that the M20 has 3 or 4 unit slots to take it, if a rifle gets in, can the rest of the squad return to base and reinforce? Then could the rifles exit the vehicle and now be two rifle squads?

Hopefully this does not work. You could stop building new sqauds and just split them up this way.

I still have to wonder why "rear echelon squad" is a frontline combat unit.

That's literally the opposite of what rear echelon personnel are.

No no no..

Just becuase you are Rear Echelon does not mean you do not still opperate as a soldier, first and foremost.. still even to this day.

For example, my brother is a Mechanic in the British Army, this is a RE role... but he would still have the option to go out on patrols etc. And he is a trained Paratrooper as well, attached to 2 Para.

So his main role is servicing the Paras vehicles, but he can fight along side them just the same.

Virtually nobody in the army is not trained first and foremost to fight.

Come on Relic, it's 1 week till release and we haven't got open beta? I remember when COH2 was released, the NDA was much more lenient.

Maybe with infantry guns, grenades and units that excel at it?

The LW doctrine allows Sturmpios to build trenches.

USA Assault Engineers looks like the doctrinal way to give the USA close combat pios.

If the past is any indication, a second profile should appear sometime today.

Interesting...now questions that arise for me..what does it mean set up time?Is the gun rotatable 360 degrees as they said 'full range of motion'.I'm pretty sure this is going to be good vs infantry.

Positives - Can damage both light vehicles and infantry.

Key issue - Is the halftrack immune to small arms fire like the soviet truck?

Also this comes from the same building as the puma..is that how it was before?Or changed?

To add to this, does it replace the stationary building flak we saw in the streaming vid or does it still exist?

Im pretty sure there was no evidence of this originating from anywhere. We didnt know where this came from; some units were not listed in the vehicle build list description.

The "stationary flak" is a base building. This is a unit.

EDIT: My biggest question is: can this and the walking stuka reinforce squads?
