Custom games aren't competitive unless you play tournaments/player of equal skill.
I'm talking automatch.
Me too, I can already play exlusively against the soviets or germans in automatch.

My vote is no. Having Soviets and Americans fight side by side on the western front is silly and it ruins the immersion for me. But I suppose it's the natural way of things. A lot of gaming franchises are throwing away authenticity for more nonsensical cool stuff these days. Just look at the CoD and battlefield series. I think it's a bit silly that they are going to allow Americans + Soviets vs Germans in automatch, but no mirror matches or allies+axis vs allies+axis. I mean, why go halfway like that? The argument for authenticity already went out the window with soviets+americans on the same team. Why not just go all the way? In: COH2 Gameplay |

I never wanted or asked for a uber realistic WW2 RTS. There are other titles for that. I just want this game to be authentic. Soviets and Americans fighting along side each other on the western front has little to do with WW2 anymore. What is the next faction going to be? The japanese? Are we then going to see the Japanese and Germans fighting side by side in the streets of Berlin? Or the brits? Rushing together with their american and soviet comrades over the frozen volga river? Realism? Its not a historical reference document or combat training simulator. Its just a game. Does it really need to be accurate? Nobody wants this game to be either of those things. Some people, like me, just want this to be an authentic WW2 RTS game. Which is what Relic sold us to begin with and are now planning on turning into a fantasy RTS. In: COH2 Gameplay |

You do know that 'authentic' has a different meaning from 'realistic', don't you? Here, let me show you some examples between the two. You know, so you can wrap your brain around it.. Compare these 3 games: - Blitzkrieg - CoH2 - Call of duty: world at war Both Blitzkrieg and CoH2 are authentic WW2 RTS games. Both have units that were actually used in the war and have maps resembling the actual fronts. Neither of them have fantasy elements such as Soviets and Americans fighting together in Paris. This makes both games authentic. However, of the two, only Blitzkrieg is realistic. Tanks generally get blown up by one penetrating hit, tanks destroy infantry etc. Units act like you would expect them to after watching a few hours of the history channel. CoH2 on the other hand is not realistic, and this is fine. After all, Relic has never even tried to create an illusion of realism. Call of duty: world at war is neither authentic nor realistic. It is a fantasy game based on WW2. In this game, you could play as a german soldier, arm yourself with a japanese made Type99 machine gun with a bayonet on it, and fight russians equiped with american drum-magazined tommie guns and japanese pistols. I would rather not have CoH2 become a fantasy WW2 game where germans are fighting off soviets in Holland or France. It is not what I was sold as a paying customer. In: COH2 Gameplay |

What is the difference? American Rangers sprinting over the frozen Volga river is not in the realm of WW2. Soviet soldiers screaming OORAAH in the streets of Paris is also not in the realm of WW2. If we get that, I want some damn zerglings rushing through the Ardennes. Fighting against purple uniformed minigun soldiers. It makes about equal sense. In: COH2 Gameplay |

I for one am very mad that Relic is going to break my illusion of a realistic World War II battle where people walk around in groups of six throwing molotov cocktails at mortar teams in blizzards and then retreat to base when they lose four people to pick up four brand new recruits who get upgraded with PPSh guns that teleport into their hands once the person in charge has secured enough munitions points by telling people to stand around flagpoles until the flag reaches the top. Great! Theb you would not oppose relic adding aliens to the game? I mean, who cares right? It fits your logic. The 'X is unrealistic, therefore anything goes' argument is stupid. In: COH2 Gameplay |

I define a competitive game as a game where the winner is decided by skill, and one that has plenty of room to express the skills of the player. This game has many features that simply don't allow me to consider this a competitive game. Let me explain them. I'll use Starcraft as a 'golden standard'. - Terrible map balance. Compare the maps of SC2 with the maps in COH2, what's the first thing you notice? The maps are not symmetrical! In this game you can start with a disadvantage simply by the role of a dice. - RNG. Need I really explain this one? In starcraft, players can predict outcomes and base their actions on this knowledge. In this game a player can't. For example, a tiger beats an IS-2 on paper. But a player can't rely on a tiger to beat an IS-2. I can perform the same action 10 times in a row in starcraft and I will get the same result 10 times. In this game I get 10 different results, based on dice rolls. - Overly simplistic gameplay. This game has barely any ways to express ones skill. The micro is simplistic and macro skills are not required at all. - As you said before, there are no mirror matches. There were none in vCOH and there are none in this game. I'm pretty sure some developer also once stated in an interview that they saw COH2 more as a 'cinematical' RTS rather than a competitive RTS. Hence the RNG, map balance, no mirror matches etc. Edit: I forgot to go into the balance patches. Here is my opinion of them: Patching the game and making the game more balanced and enjoyable for the players does not automatically mean that the game is intended to be highly competitive. It just means they want to make the game more balanced and enjoyable. In: COH2 Gameplay |
