Thread: COH2 - ESL Tournament Series20 Dec 2015, 01:58 AM You know, given the current alternatives, I'm cautiously optimistic about this. While there's plenty of shoulda-woulda-couldas as far as CoH2 (and esports) are concerned, this should, at the very least, provide a platform from which people can reference for issues of balance and gameplay. It's a lot harder to get people to look at a replay or (hah) take someone's word for their experiences on how something should be balanced. It's a lot easier to take into account something like a Tournament Finals Series that both players and developers can reference. In: COH2 Gameplay
Thread: How much were infantry sections nerfed this patch?16 Dec 2015, 19:47 PM Well, it measures in tenths of seconds, down to the milliseconds. But the thing is, these are for each of 4 to 5 soldiers. That starts adding up quickly. One or two seconds saved can be enough to swing the favor of an isolated engagement. But I'll agree that it has more to do with getting a series of good RNG rolls than being in cover or not. Squeezing the RNG odds that much more in your favor makes or breaks the game. Not to mention the innate bonuses of being in cover to begin with. In: COH2 Gameplay

Thread: Company Of Heroes 315 Dec 2015, 23:59 PM The Pacific Theater would be interesting, but the one thing I keep thinking of is Men of War : Vietnam. The environments and type of warfare is so much different that it would really need to be its own separate entity. The conflict and combat was so much different that it'd be hard to have things carry over with Germans and Soviets involved as well. (As in, CoH doesn't have a ton of naval mechanics, outside of artillery that's coming from naval ships, apparently. In: Lobby
Thread: How to rework emplacements15 Dec 2015, 23:55 PM I always wondered how it would work if the emplacements were built without crew, then only functioned when you had them garrisoned. They could then be stolen and 'crewed' by any faction as well. If they weren't expensive to build, I think it could work out pretty well. Swapping units in and out of garrison to reinforce/heal I think makes for more interesting gameplay than 'brace' and waiting, or having small arms immune cyborgs crewing the mortars in their pits. I was mistaken in believing that the cover bonus affected accuracy. Since it's cooldown and reload, then a more accurate statement is to say that Infantry Sections suck at all ranges, but when in cover, they fire fast enough to make up for it. But here's the Infantry Section's accuracy at far/mid/near : 0.529/0.564/0.598 For Comparison: 0.598/0.661/0.748 < Grens' Kar98k 0.5175/.0.667/0.713 < Rifles M1 Garand edit While I was at it: Tommies when out of cover get a 40% increase to their reload timer and a 20% to their cooldown. cooldown:0.375-0.6 seconds far/mid/near multiplier: 1/0.875/0.75 So, In cover: 0.375d-0.6s/0.328s-0.525s/0.281s-0.45s (I'm assuming the modifier is applied to the base value, before range modifiers) Out of cover: 0.45s-0.72s/0.393s-0.63s/0.337s-0.54s As you can see, the base range of the cooldown has more of a factor than the cover bonus/penalty. Reload duration is 1.25 seconds, every 9 shots, and this does not vary at any range (1/1/1). This means every 9 shots, it takes them half a second longer to reload than if they were in cover. The bonus (or rather, the penalty is removed) in light, heavy, and 'garrison_cover' which I'm not sure what is applied to. (buildings, halftracks, both, or at all, etc) In: COH2 Gameplay

If I need schreks I have to spend 340 manpower, invest 120 munitions, and end up with a 4 man squad that needs to have AI support. A choice has to be made with Panzergrenadiers on what role they are going to play: AI or AT. And that's a one way road. With schreks, their entire play style changes. Who think that the most effective use of schreks is at mid range, in cover? No one, because the schreks already destroyed the cover. Remember, Ostheer is designed around the MG42 and supporting it. Using Pgrens to defend against flanking pushes on MG42s is where they shine. Problem is, that's the role Grens will already have been excelling at. In: COH2 Balance

Thread: CoH 2 rejoin ability15 Dec 2015, 09:16 AM True, but remember it is DotA 2. The first one was a Warcraft 3 mod. DotA 2 was developed with the problems of being a mod on Battle.net in mind. CoH2 is using a stretched engine that's nearly a decade old and is currently working with an established playerbase and multiplayer environment. To implement what DotA 2 has would effectively require rebuilding the entire engine. In: COH2 Gameplay
