I realize that the goal here isn't the redesign Mobile Defense but I could get behind this combination. Especially since you have Puma in the commander that would also benefit from the buffed Counter Attack Tactics (which if we're being honest never gets used)
That actually is a great point. A 250 with counter attack tactics would be a really neat combination and fit the theme of Mobile Defense much more than Osttruppen.
That said, I think a 250 would make the combo potent enough without having vehicles be able to de-cap points. |
I mean, that's already how German Infantry works (albeit minus the T4 requirement) and I'm not sure what could be done to replace it there.
Sure, but keep in mind the Veteran Squad Leader does a bunch of things. It gives a G43, 10 % weapon reload, 10 % accuracy and 10 % RA, in addition to free med kits. There's no reason to copy this specific upgrade.
The default T4 one could offer different bonuses that are equally as appealing, but not the same as the VSL from German Infantry. |
Why can't the 5 man upgrade work akin to the 7-man cons, where you have to make a choice between getting the LMG42 OR getting the late-game 5 man upgrade?
Assuming this is placed in the T4 building, it would also make T4 a viable and desirable choice in every game mode, whereas currently T4 is completely lackluster in 1v1. |
Its not a complete antithesis to way the ability works though. Its a g43 commander, which means your squads are more aggressive and probably taking heavier losses
I usually build lots of pgrens when I have g43s, so more snaring squads to screen the Tiger is always helpful
But then you're bleeding PGren manpower to get Osttruppen which isn't the best of ideas.
You could just as easily flank with Grens without having to bleed your manpower and keep munis for JU87 or Tactical Movement. |
Nonsense. If the JU87 strafe was replaced with a non-muni ability, people would take notice of how good this is. 60 muni to get 3 Osttruppen squads is batshit OP.
And if the Relief Infantry's Osttruppen were replaced by Obersoldaten nobody would ever use the JU87. See? I too, can make up hypothetical scenarios that have nothing to do with reality.
You missed the point of what I was saying. If I play a non-Osttruppen doctrine I don't want Osttruppen. The playstyle of Lightning War is a complete antithesis to the way Osttruppen work. The idea of that ability works perfect for Festung Support, however. |
Riflemen need a buff, they cannot compete with Grenadiers and Ostruppen.
Likewise, the Jackson is in urgent need of buffs because it's unable to deal with Axis armor.
USF struggles against MG spam, so a buff to the Pak howie is mandatory. It's not consistent enough at wiping units. Alternatively, Scotts need a durability buff that makes them harder to kill.
Finally, we have the Caliope which is a worse Panzerwerfer, but unlike the Werfer cannot get instant wipes before the enemy can even hit the retreat button.

I'll say it again, if I want Osttruppen I'll go for the Osttruppen commanders. I have absolutely no interest in getting them if I play Lightning War. |
Bring the Puma back to 5 CP and replace the Command Panzer IV with something different, like a King Tiger or Pz4J buildable from the HQ or something.
Then, replace Panzer Tactian with Stuka smoke to make it less cheesy. Problem solved. |
.
I've heard some complaints about doing this. If someone could refresh my memory, but how much does OKW and OST pay to unlock grenades and weapon upgrades in addition to their teching?
Happy to help.
OKW has to pay for its truck in addition to putting it down, meaning you pay fuel twice.
Wehrmacht has to first put a building down and then tech, meaning you also pay fuel twice as Wehrmacht.
For USF/UKF, you click one button. |
I worry about Mobile Assault regiment’s 2CP ability which gives the cover bonus out of cover.
That is also an excellent point. |
