I've been saying for a few patches now that grens need to trade RA for better damage. They're balanced lukewarm, so theres no area for them to excel in. They struggle to survive, and they struggle to do damage.
My changes would be :
RA to 1
Far damage increased by like 20%
Mid by 15%
Close by 10%
Note that making them weaker means less time to do damage hence the disproportionate increase.
The Damage resistance should be moved to battlephases, and any other buffs. Something like:
BP1 4% damage reduction to vanilla troops
BP2 +5% damage reduction to vanilla troops
7% damage reduction to elite troops
BP3 6% damage reduction to vanilla troops
8% damage reduction to elite troops
Keep the remaining damage reduction required for 20% as a veterancy bonus if so desired else move it to battle phase.
The goal: Grens become actual glass cannons that can chase off capping squads and wipe low health squads instead of being an over all weak unit. The loss of survivablity makes MG-42 more important for defending the fragile squads, but makes it less necessary for assaulting which it doesn't do very well.
Moving damage reduction, and other potential buffs to battlephases helps recover some of the unique veterancy flavor of COH1 whermacht while also making them easier to balance i.e. is OST struggling early game, but dominating mid-game? Shift some of the battlephase bonuses from mid to early. Much easier than buffing base stats of grens to the point where they become strong early-game, but probably OP in some other phase.

but the life expectancy of a Firefly is about 7 seconds unless they retreat.
Your clip is on double speed, and it's 2x FF vs a JT and raketten. |
Seems like you're over-complicating the problem. Between armor-penetration, and vehicle size-accuracy you can create 4 different classes of vehicles e.g. high armor low size, high armor high size, low armor small size, and low armor high size. You can also throw in the variables of HP, dmg reduction, ROF, and damage. This is more than enough to express unique values for 20-30 something vehicles.
Could more effort be invested into evaluating the variables defining each vehicle? Sure, but adding in even more variables is just going to magnify the effort into balancing things, not help.
The game can't really support units that do well against mediums, but not against heavies. Not in a theoretical sense, but in a fun sense. Do we really want to be building a PaK 40 for LV, have it become obsolete 5 minutes later, then build a PaK 41 for mediums and PaK 43 for heavies?
COH2 excels because of it's elegance IMO. It solves complex problems in the simplest way possible. There are tons upon tons of games out there that have 20 different stats and 1,000 different units, and no one really plays them.
With all that said I do prefer CoH1's vehicle system over CoH2, and I hope that if we ever get a CoH3 it's not WWII yet again, because we'll see even more poor decisions for the sake of making the game "new". |
And how often do you play against engi spam of other factions again?
You don't. The other factions have prohibitively expensive workers for anyone to spam them. |
In a normal okw composition, 1 spio is all I need to get great value out of it. Spamming Spios is a bad strat since it locks you into very expensive 4man infantry that have no snares and no ranged damage.
Good compositions and combined arms will always beat moronic spam at equal skill level.
But Spios are better? Right? |
Because you have to be an idiot to think spamming an engineer unit is a good strat.
But Spios are better than engies right? Like you totally would have won if you did build them right? |
Just one replay where someone has more than two sturmpios on the field at once.
Spios double as both an engineer and frontline combat squad. This is pretty basic.
Why'd you build volksgren in our matchup if spios are better than engies in every way? |
Either of you care to provide replays demonstrating why these workers are stronger than CE? |
For the naysayers: which worker unit is the strongest right now? |
You forgot about the part where all of that falls apart the moment any infantry gets to vet1 or above.
Also, do you need some glasses? Because you've got a link where CE spam was roflstomped in few mins at competitive level - have you not seen that?
Your logic is same as "grens have best infantry stats per model basis and are cheaper, so just spam them and they will beat rifles", but then reality hits.
Ah. So I guess partisans ought to be nerfed since kimbo clowns on stormjaeger with them in the match just before that. There's absolutely no skill difference whatsoever going on you see.
If gren models were like 20 manpower they would be the best infantry. Hell even now they're better than rifles until officers start hitting the field. |
