In this case the Panther would have an armour and HP advantage over a TD, but the TD would have the accuracy advantage from range and would win unless the panther flanks and closes in.
Tank destroyers already have the accuracy advantage over the Panther at medium and long range.
Quite significantly so in case of the Firefly and the SU-85.
Panther has 0.06/0.045/0.035 accuracy at ranges 0/25/50, and 24 target size.
SU-85 has 0.06/0.045/0.04 accuracy at ranges 0/30/60, and 18 target size;
Jackson has 0.05/0.045/0.035 at ranges 0/30/60, and 24 target size;
Firefly has 0.06/0.05/0.04 (0.066/0.055/0.044 with Tank Commander) accuracy at ranges 0/45/60 and 23 target size. |
I think is 6.5, a flanking AEC can kill it off
… so 7 shots? |
The armor bonus helps against snares, bazookas, PIATs, medium TDs like the M10 and SU-76 and all medium tanks and premium medium tanks. There's no reason to replace it just because it doesn't really help against 3 units (Firefly, SU-85, Jackson).
Also, +80hp on the Panther, giving it 7 shots of durability, would be quite ridiculous. |
How are the 105mm, 76mm and Easy Eight meant to compete with that?
The 76mm can take out enemy armor way better because of HVAP shells, and insane reload time with veterancy, Radio Net and Combined Arms (reload can get as low as ~2 seconds). The EZ8 is much faster and doesn't need to switch shells. The 105mm is generally more reliable than the Sherman at forcing off infantry.
That being said, all the Sherman variants have always had only very little variation between them, that's not really something that can be fixed. I think the current situation is mostly fine, now they all have some advantages the others don't have, which gives players a lot of options so they can play with whichever ones they prefer, without having one clear winner overshadow all the others. |
bulldozers which are badly designed and overlap with the 105mm M4
I don't think they overlap at all, the 105mm is a pure anti-infantry tank that's pretty late game due to role, timing and cost, while the dozer M4A3 Sherman is a buffed up medium tank that's a great unit to get out early, because at that point (late mid / early late game) you usually need something that can force off infantry but can also potentially hold back Panzer IVs or Ostwinds, and making your generalist medium more durable is very nice. |
Probably best to also replace the Sherman 76 and give the mech company doctrine a useful ability in its stead, maybe an air ability.
Mechanized is already a very powerful commander, one of the best for teamgames and still often used in 1v1s too, with the WC-51 and Cav Rifles for wipes, the dozer Shermans / 76s to get premium mediums and Combined Arms. It doesn't need anything else, or it'd potentially become overpowered. |
They could, however, restore what they removed.
If it was that easy, they would've done it by now. I don't know the full story, but in short, as far as I know, those tools haven't been updated in years, it would still take a huge effort to make them compatible with the current version of the game, and the devs that worked on the tools and/or the game aren't around anymore to explain what's what. It's not that they don't want to, it's simply that they can't, with the current resources available. |
Then the game can be called officially dead
I mean, what did you expect? The game is six years old. Of course Relic isn't going to release anything new at this point. And releasing mod tools would require a huge effort with very little gains for them.
After last large content, the game has been balancing for three years and the balanced wars are still ongoing, this does not support interest in the game.
I'd beg to differ, making the game as balanced as possible makes it more fun to play and keeps players playing.
This is supported by the player numbers on Steam ( https://steamcharts.com/app/231430) that show that the number of average players is still as high as it was three years ago, and has made a resurgence last year with the free give away without any new content dropping (besides the new commanders). The estimated total amount of active players must still be around 200.000-300.000 which is quite a huge amount for such an old title in a less popular genre. |
I would like to hear the answer from the Relic manager to a simple question: will we get modding tools or not
That ship has sailed long ago. CoH2 will never get modding tools at this stage. |
Not many people know the T-34's armor had similar armor protection to the infamous Tiger Tank, just a few millimeter's shy of the Tiger's 100mm upper glacis
As far as I know, T-34s had 45mm at 60 degrees giving it 90mm effective thickness, while the Tiger had 102mm plates at 10 and 20 degrees, giving it 103-108 effective thickness on the upper and lower glacis, and the almost horizontal 62mm plate in between. That's significantly better protection than the T-34 in the mid war years when penetration didn't skyrocket yet. On top of that, Tiger drivers were trained to angle their tank in combat to maximize the relative armor thickness. |
