The Matchmaker is NOT matching by ranks but instead by a hidden ELO rating (check out this post if you are interested in the details). As it is "hidden" we can't really check how ELOs are distributed for each faction/game modes across ranks. That said, my best guess is that it is to some extend similar to a percentile ranking, although there will be certainly rank ranges where different factions do not match up well... As Jae said, any deviation from a 50% winrate should have nothing to do with balance but rather with how matchmaking works, as long as you are not looking at the very best or worst players. This is just one of the reasons why balance is in the focus at the top level. Still, I'd also say that balance at mid-levels should be okish, for a couple of reasons:
Furthermore, several points in the past patches were not trying to improve "balance" but rather "gameplay"... So, yeah, I think balancing at the top is most important, but ideally it should be balanced across all skill ranges, fully knowing that it will be impossible to achieve that, more so across all different game modes and matchups... I think basing anything on the GCS2 games is tricky to some extent (btw, 222s were still more commonly build than 251s, just saying...). The problem that I see is that we don't really know where Ostheer stands outside of Mobile Defense. SOV vs. OH seems to be reasonably well balanced (with Mobile Defense); On the other hand, FHT without Mobile Defense might be considerably weaker (that said, Hans and Jesulin were using the FHT with Osttruppen...). Sidenote: Frankly, I'm not a big fan of tying the Puma to tech (or most stuff for that matter). I'm totally fine with it working as the "Oh Shit" button, but I feel it should be a worse choice in the long run. My first choice would be to replace Smoke with something useless and see how that goes. On the same note: My impression was that the alpha strike of the FHT is ok, but it might be too easy to run down retreating units with it; rather than reducing it's damage there (which might be tricky due to how flames work) it might be better to increase the risk of that. Not having smoke helps in that respect, but reducing the health so that it survives a mine with 1 HP left (or maybe not even that) might also be an option. Alternatively, the risk might be increased by delaying tech: Maybe make the FHT upgrade cost like 20 fuel, so that the second vehicles would be delayed? In: COH2 Balance |

The map of the 2v2 version is correct already, the other two points are more cosmetic, but ok, updated the 2v2 version now as well (removed bush, made the hedgerow less massive). |

Ok, updated the 3v3 version according to Rosbone's suggestion. - The bush at the north-eastern garrison removed. - I tried to make the hedgerow in the north visually somewhat less dense - Updated the map (indeed, it used the old version, not the the new one without the building). |

Ok, I updated the maps now. The 2v2 version in the workshop should be the updated one. Changes are that the corner VP now only span their respective fields, the corners themselves belong to the munition points now. Furthermore, I deleted all instances of branch_pile_03. Rosbone's observation might actually explain something that I was wondering about: In one stream I saw a unit getting negative cover by walking across an open field. At the time I fired up the WB but wasn't able to find any texture or splat that would produce negative terrain cover. When searching for this object today I found that there was one of those piles next to where I observed the issue a while ago... Well, anyways, those are the only changes to the 2v2 version. I applied the same changes to the 3v3 and also moved around the trees/bushes/bunkers to recreate kind-a-sort-a the same situation for both sides. Btw, the trucks Rosbone was comparing... well, they are not the same truck mirrored. The one for the southern base is roughly at the same position, towards the center from the base. The burning tank is towards the corner vp, so that functionally the same point as the one close to the dungheap in the north. The situation there is not totally symmetrical, never was. But then again, this is so far out of the way of where the action normally is, I don't think it matters (and I never saw anybody complain about this). Now, here is the problem with the 3v3 version: I uploaded it as new object (the name should have (mono, v2) appended). Problem is, the new steam version is acting up on this machine so I can't get to the object in the workshop (it "loads" forever) and thus can't provide a link here. Can anybody else see my workshop objects and post the link? Otherwise, I'll try tomorrow... Edit: Ah, here we go: New 3v3 version |
