Thing is that the fact that the soviet sniper team is a two model squad isn't a problem, the problem is that both models can snipe if one of them is killed and maybe its rate of fire is too high seeing how it fights 4/5 models istead of wehr sniper fighting 5/6 models.
That would be a great fix while keeping the 2 man squads
Quick question though, wouldn't it be hard to prevent the second model from sniping completely? Maybe a extended cooldown if the sniping model is killed would be easier to code. |
I don't want to say that the Soviet Sniper is fine, but it is everything but low risk.
Losing one model means 90MP down the drain. Losing both means 360MP gone. Also the most important thing to consider is getting a Sniper means a Penal Squad less and way less capping power. And if the Soviet player gets the sniper later on, it might face 222s and other light vehicles.
So yeah, it is annoying as hell but still high risk, high reward.
I don't think most sniper builds go penals anymore, both together cost way to much to have any map control. Therefore a cons+sniper meta is more common, but what you said still applies to cons also. |

I always thought permant bans are permant
The demands of the people will not be silenced |
Spamming Bunkers in an already muni starved faction (ost) is hard, especially if they start replacing their gren upgrades, rifle nades, and mines to upgrade an MG bunker meaning the rest of their army suffers |
Sounds like a good move. Why bother spending time and resources into a game that clearly never got off on the right foot. If you aren't successful during launch, its difficult to reverse a downward trend in playerbase. Now they can consolidate their time and effort into projects that have a higher chance of success.
Sure there will be people upset and rightfully so, but games are a business. If studios aren't making money then what's the point. Cut their losses, learn from their mistakes and move on.
I mean its not impossible to stop a downward trend but the very core of DOW3 is flawed and basically had little to no potential for a comeback. Games that did have a comeback (Rainbow Six Siege and the recent Division to an extent) while having design flaws and other issues the core gameplay had elements of fun that allowed the game to make a comeback. DOW3 had none of these. |
True, although bazookas and panzerschrecks alike at that time were RNG sniper rifles. Volks were a bit unique in that their 5 levels of vet also gave them great accuracy for their panzerschrecks, and their panzerschrecks made it really easy to get to vet 5.
Plus as USF you always had your snare (after vet 1). OKW at the time didn't have a snare. People also forget that.
I've been preachin' this since '15.
Now that Obers are closer to Stormtroopers and Panzergrens a potentially earlier arrival might actually be seen as feasible.
Yeah i actually forgot they didn't have a snare, which back then made m10 and Cromwell crush disastrous for okw
I have to admit tank crushing a volk blob was amazing though |
What the hell...nerfing the dmg/ performanche...and increasing the price tag to...was it really that op?
2x 222 use to roflstomp everything |
It'd probably easier to just clone the Ostheer sniper, and adjust the Soviet reload and cooldown speed to 133%.
You get the exact same ability to cloak and countersnipe, and end up with a RoF that's adjusted for axis squad sizes.
To give you an idea of how rough just removing the 2nd member would be for Soviets: Currently, at max range, the Soviet Sniper team has a TWELVE SECOND cooldown timer. I'm not sure people are typically aware of this. Ostheer sniper has a 3 second cooldown at all ranges.
A 1 man soviet sniper would need a better vet 1 than the flares. I wonder if the flare revealed cloaked units if it would be balanced.... That'd be interesting to see/test.
Oh yeah if the sov sniper was a 1 man with no changes it would be awful but I dont see an issue with the Sov sniper basically becoming a ost clone. |
I think some people forgot the volks with shreks could still deal with allied infantry. Therefore it was possible to see volks win engagements with a shrek, negating medium armor play while still being competitive in infantry engagements. Meanwhile for both Rifles, Tommies, and Penals adding AT to them had notable decreases to their AI capacity while not being as effective as Shreks against medium armor.
I do agree however it sometimes feels that the Strums take up way to many roles for OKW, the mix between repairs, mines, and early game assault troops on top of the handheld AT is a little overboard. Maybe making placing shreks on Obers and having to decide between the mg34 for infantry and shreks for AT would be better. |
.
+1 The Sov sniper will likely never be balanced as a 2 man squad |
