3 short questions:

1. What for that unit exists in doctrines for CP 2, when I have in all ways better ZiS-3 without doctrines right here and now?

2. Who and why use that thing?

3. When last time you saw M-42 AT in action?

Most likely because that doctorine was designed for a different, and much older era of this game, when devs had a different perspective on it.

1. Mostly to annoy me and troll noobs who doesn't know better.

2. People who insist on adding Japanese faction, they use M-42 together with conscripts only and use T70s as main battle tank to get most accurate japanese faction feel.

3. WFA closed alpha, when I used it against OKW in hopes that it actually might be useful because of trucks and lights, turned out Porygon is just as much of a dick in game as he is on forums and M-42s are better AI then AT.

At least, m42 caught my enemy off guard when he saw my penals and rushed his 222 in.

To be honest, M-42 in my "Ultimate Hipster Unit List" (along with KV-1, T-34-76, M8 Scott, OKW Flaktruck et cetera). I'm using it mostly when i'm tired of current meta and want to experiment or have some fun with.

It is pretty much cost effective light AT to help your infantry army against vehicles. I found this tool effective when you have 3-4 M-42 in ambush. Just press "Hold Fire", wait until enemy vehicle comes in range of all AT guns/blows on mine and cancel "Hold Fire" ability. With 2 vet you will have constant flow of 45mm shells on enemy armor.

I've used it from time to time to troll in custom matches, but never seriously. IMO, it should be more like a long-range T70 gun on wheels to give it some unique flavor and purpose. Or a Rak clone.

In vs AI I once made like 15 of them, there was so much smoke it looked like a napoleonic war zone

Agree, make it like a static T70, increase the price to reflect the performance, it should be okish at cp2.

Before price change of USSR T1 and T2 it used to reduce AT lack when you go to FHQ doctrine. Second doctrine (Defence doctrine) is somewhat expensive T2, but nobody take it because it useless in late game and give nothing unreplacebale.

2. Who and why use that thing?
I am using it with FHQ and T1, it helps a little bit before you get T2 or T3.

3. When last time you saw M-42 AT in action?
Some days ago.

Maybe instead of "pretty useless" M42 there should be "more usefull AT" PTRS packs for conscripts? I think USSR deserve more than 1 doctrine with Simonov's rifles.

Frankly, it doesn't, its more efficient to just get T2 and ZiS.

By the time you can get M-42, you don't need it any more, much like conscript PTRS.

Change ZiS-3 to M42... Make ZiS-3 doctrinal... Bro, where is your mind? Let's also change Panzerschrecks to German AT Rifles for Volks. And make panzerschrecks doctrinal. Greatest idea evar!

Well, the m-42 actually could be useful if it had a nice buff.

It's probably for the best it doesn't get buffed though, thing will be a pak-43 if lelic touches it.

Hello.

The M42 is half a ZIS in any offensve ways, but i like it anyways. It is a bad unit but it does its job as you expect it ^^. However, it freightens the opponent like a true ZIS and make him play strangely :p.
